Fishing Snapper in the bay

Snapper season is in full swing and i just got the boat all sorted out so was just wondering if some keen fishermen could help me out and tell me where and what bait to use to get this great species of fish.

Look into some lures mate. Bait is useless for snapper I find. Depends on the area what one to use but go to a local tackle shop really and ask what everyone else buys

You really have to come to SA. The Snapper you can catch in the Spencer and St Vincents Gulf are enourmous. The smaller ones taste better though.

On the bait issue, we almost always use squid.

caught 25 this week. one a 6.5 kilo, a 6 kilo and a 5 kilo. I caught a couple of two kilo ones. I cooked it up, baked and stuffed. It was divine. I still have three in the freezer.

Yeah i have been out 3 times now and still haven't caught a thing. The bloke i have been with has caught tonnes just never with me he caught four 6 kilo snapper in one day out, we went to the same spot at the same time a week later absolutly nothen there.

By the way 10 is the allowed bag limit for snapper.

10 snapper fish under 50cm or 7 under 50cm and 3 over 50 cm

there was 8 of us on the charter boat. some of us took 4 home and others only a couple.

My favourite bait for Snapper is Squid as was said before but I do find that smaller fish will destroy your Squid if they are in the area. If the pickers are in the area a whole fish like herring,********ty ect are the go.

I was also reading that if you catch a Snapper, never throw any of the frame guts or anything in the water were you are catching them because, they will see the blood and think it is a shark attack and the Snapper will leave the area. So no more fish for you.

Jeez havent been on here for a while but i thought he was talking crap too but i saw two of them in his big freezer.

Might go out Saturday and try catch some pinkies if we are lucky at Chelsea boy. I went out with my old man about 3 weeks ago rekon the stingrays were out in force got 4 of our lines snaped after big runs but they just didn't seem right so guessing it wasn't snapper.

hey people not sure if im in the right bay or not just wanting some ionfo to where to go fishing, not a mad fisher just a keen hobbier, i have access to safety beach, dromana, portarlington area ect

any help would be greatly appreiaced to help a poor no-luck fiserman!!!!
