I still subscribe to the 'boofing Woosha's Wife' theory for Glass.. There's no other explanantion.

Apart from the abysmal foot and hand skills ? I must admit I haven't seen Glass play in the WAFL, but at AFL level he appears to be somewhat of a clanger merchant.

I think Glass can develop into a pretty decent key defender, if he can learn to avoid the ball at all costs :)

Glass is doing well and the only reason he is getting dropped is because of match-ups or team-balance. I'm sure if there was a 6 man interchange he would be getting a game almost every week.

Glass can't kick. That's a big problem in football. He tries to play on with the quick handpass at all times (which is understandable because he can't kick), but smart forwaards anticipate that and it gets us into trouble. Hopefully Woosha can work his magic and improve Glass' kicking, even if it's just teaching him to welly it away from the danger area.

If he cant kick, why did we waste such a high draft pick on him?? #11 from memory

yeah! Of all the problems a footballer could have, this would be the least worst!

Glass did a serviceable job on Saturday IMO. I didn't see anything to suggest he's a hopeless kick. Anyway I'd be quite happy for him to handpass all day if he kept his opponent quiet. Being Woosha's AFL-WAFL yo-yo isn't going to help his confidence much either.

Because as a draft pick you hope to develop a player's skills. A lot of past draft picks have been selected on body size, pace, essentially athletic ability. Glass is definitely not slow for his size and therefore would have been seen as an attractive prospect.

He certainly cant kick to save his life, and even his disposal by hand leaves a lot to be desired. He doesnt look comfortable under pressure and telegraphs his disposals at times.

It doesn't really matter much if a defender hasn't got a great kick. Look at Jakovich, champion defender, and has a blind kick probably 4 times out of 5.

Isn't that a requirement for a defender? Unless we teach them mental telepathy, it's the only way of letting your teammate know he's getting the ball.

Telegraphing your disposals to opponents in a glaringly obvious manner is quite different. Youre just taking it out of context.

That's my point - I don't see how he does this glaringly and obviously more than anyone else.
Back in Woosha & Bluey's day, there was an almost telepathic communication in our back line because they all played enough together as a group to know what each other were going to do.
Glass never gets that opportunity. I'll admit Glass' makes mistakes, but no more more than Carroll who gets picked every week. Carroll may be finally developing into something worthwhile because of Woosha's persistence, but I reckon Glass has the potential to be better than him.

rant over ;)

If Haynes gets dropped I'll really spew.

He's been doing a great job on the lead, although against the Pies he went missing, but he's kicking has really let him down.

He's not a natural FF but Woosha seems to be persisting with him there.

I would like to see him as the third tall, with Wilson/Hansen/McDougall/Seaby/Cox/Jakovich at FF and Gaspar at CHF. Not only is Haynes very dangerous on a lead, He's agile enough to take the ball at ground level.

I think our best bet for FF is a rotation policy which involves anyone capable of playing there who is playing in a given match. These guys wouldn't spend any more than half a quarter there and it would really just upset the rythm of the opposing fullback.

So if you took whats been on "normal" (by that I mean, the guys that have played the most) team for a week-in week-out basis: Wirrpunda - McIntosh - Carroll; Banfield - Jakovich - Morrison; Chick - Fletcher - Judd; Embley - Gaspar - Jones; Sampi - Haynes - Matera; Gardiner - Kerr - Cousins; Cox - Hunter - Green - Braun.

You'd have naturally Haynes at FF, Jakovich and McIntosh would spend some time down there when only 2 talls were in their forward line, or Jako would go to CHF with Gaspar at FF for a spell. Gardiner and Cox would spend some time there, even Embley could go down there and spend some time at FF.

That gives us 7 options to rotate through FF, which is probably our best bet, because there really isn't anyone at the moment who is capable of holding that position down and consistently kicking bags, including Wilson.
