Re: The Best Breeding Ground

Hey,
Everytime a bloke gets a posession, the commentators always say, doing Colac Proud.
So, i understand that Colac have bred current players such as:
Luke Hodge- hawks
Jonothan Brown- Lions
NAthan Foley- Tigers
Amon Buchanan- Swans
Joffy Simkin- Swans

Im sure theres more.
Apart from major cities, what other places has produced such talent?
cheers
Lucas comes from Camperdown which is just a few kms from there.

Re: The Best Breeding Ground

Darwin has about 80,000 people. The whole NT has only 200,000.
Do either count?

Re: The Best Breeding Ground

No doubt about it the western District of Victoria is one of the best breeding grounds for footballers atm.

My home town of Bendigo which has been traditionally strong. still have a good number of footballers.
The Selwoods x 3
Nathan Brown
Adam Simpson
Nick Dal Santo
Nathan Thompson

Re: The Best Breeding Ground

Wouldnt really coumt that as home grown as a large portion if noy most of these players were recruited to east freo from other clubs.

Umm. I guess you mean junior clubs in the East Fremantle zones. Also Q.Lynch was from West Perth

when the likes of amon buchanan and luke hodge played for colac, they were playing in the hampden league!!!

i recall watching them 2 dominate in an u18 game, whilst the finals were on!!

Re: The Best Breeding Ground

Over the years, the Latrobe Valley have had a few reasonable players running around in the VFL/AFL

Bernie Quinlan
Kelvin Templeton
Gary Ablett
Tom Alvin
Brian Royal
Barry Round
Barry Rowlings
Kevin Ablett

to name a few.

All were recruited during a time that it was as hard to commit to city life as it was to commit to the requirements of the best footy in the land.

Couple of Brownlows there too.

Damn Colac should not be in the Hampden League. You have to drive for about 100 minutes to get to Colac and then spend another 15 minutes looking for the bloody oval.

I don't consider Warrnambool and Colac to be in the same "zone."
