Let me rephrase.
If you're going to a kick a winning score, at least 1 forward is going to have to beat their opponent. So whether it's the third best forward, 4th best etc, someone has to stand up.
In other words what you're trying to say is if one of our defenders is beaten on the day it means they are crap.

Ah. Well if you read my top post it explains that your whole team was in our back line doing some kind of new flooding experiment which made the game extremely boring. Seriously never do it again.

You can't really say that Fevola or Brown only managed one goal between them and that you're defense is good because there was at least three players of them at all times and then only when they pushed up the ground Staker was one on one and won everything time. Plus Fev gave off about 3 goals.

Ladson = premiership player
Birchall = premiership player
Brown = premiership player
Guerra = premiership player
Gilham = premiership player

I'm sorry you were saying?

Are you trying to say that Croad carried our whole defense in 2008 even though he played 1 quarter in the grand final?

Gee maybe we should just put witches hat out on the ground instead of these duds :rolleyes:

Are you suggesting Ladson, Birchall, Brown, Guerra and Gilham are better than Riewoldt, Cooney, Hayes, Fevola and Swan because they were your bottom 6 players in a premiership? You've got a poor argument.

Hodge, Crawford and Dew helped out in defense by dropping back in the GF and Croad was your only decent KPD, though injured in the GF, he got you there, the others listened to the coach and played according to the game plan - Clarkson's Cluster.

I think I know better how we played in the grand final as I can bet I have watched it more than you.
It is widely known that Hawthorn played man-on-man in the GF. Clarkson took the punt on playing contested football instead of the zone which he thought Geelong could break.
Geelong had the better of the midfield battle and had more inside 50s, 62-43.
The score was 18.7 to 11.12 (11 rushed).
Hawthorn's defense was too good for geelong's forward line on the day, but it can be argued that we match up well on them.
All of our backmen had a direct opponent, including Hodge who zoned off many times to get to other contests.
So what your trying to say is the only reason why our backline stood up in 2008 was because we had Dew (a 110 kg utility) and Crawford a 33 yr old midfield veteran dropping back to help them. Wow

You cannot win a flag without at least a solid backline. So to say hawthorn's weakest players are all backmen is pretty naive.
