SACA reserve is being put down for footy to 10? SANFL reserve is also around 10k

Thats 20k done, 1k is reserved for other teams interstate members, 29k for members and general public

In Perth the Stadium should be around the 80,000 and have a Roof.That way you could use it for a variety of sports.

What a crazy idea. Only massive football (any code, disregarding NCAA) clubs would fill an 80k stadium. Australia doesn't have one massive club.

Collingwood would tend to disagree !!!

These stadiums have to satisfy the members of the clubs using them.
Eagles have 42k? with another 10k on a waiting list. Freo 38k. These numbers will only grow with the population. No third WA club pleez !
So 65k stadium with bones for 70k is fine for Perth.

Crows have 40 oddk members and regularly fill 52k Aami.
Port had 30k to a nothing-end-of-season game at AO. If they are doing well, they'll get 40 k easily. So AO at 60k sounds fine. Likewise, they can bid for Wallaby and Socceroo games. Population grows, members grow.

Port and crows reserve a seat for all of their members at the moment (36k and 43k?)

I think the "real club members" for port is around 30k so 6k is POrt magpie, a SANFL membership just gives you a ticket into every AAMI Stadium game, don't know how it will work at AO

22 events per year (AFL footy in Perth) is low, too low I'd argue.

AFL footy pays all the bills at the MCG, with cricket drawing less & less in the crowds stakes - why Adelaide Oval needs footy.

Which is why the new stadium should be tied to a 3rd Perth team - and a capacity of 70,000 would be ideal.

Crazy talk, how low do you want the standard of the competition to get ?

More games in Perth should not be linked the # of teams.
North & the Eagles had an arrangement that would have put $700+k into Norths back pocket by transferring a loss making game for North @ Etihad into a winner for North & WA footy. Rejected by the AFL.

More games will improve the viability of a new stadium & increase WA footys claims to run the new stadium - we dont want a Vic style arrangement that greases the palms of ground managers at the expense of footy club members & fans. The new SA arrangement is little better.

Worth pointing out that in regards to the member numbers, that 10k+ In The Wings membership is a actually placeholder for a purchase of up to 2 adult and 2 children, so that 10k could be standing in for easily 20k more.

The people on that list who were getting 2011 membership offers were actually those who signed in *2005*. I joined the list in 2009 and am still thousands off the pace.

However, as has been infamously noted, there is a lot of hoarding of the memberships by people who have no hope of attending in the current season but can't stand to wait six years to regain memberships.

So, if we want crowds, on the Eagles side at least there is probably a viable ability to equal the Collingwood home crowds consistently (dunno about Freo though) and justify a stadium 70-80k.

The only thing that would be disappointing is that for the first couple years there would probably be more scope for other club supporters getting in; might lose some of the cauldron like 99% crowd support. Probably get some younger fans in to liven the crowds up though.

Just imagine how amazing the derby day crowds would look though...

By the time your 60k stadium is built in 5 years, you'll have nearly the same problems with memberships and people unable to see WC. I honestly can't believe it's only going to seat 60k - easily enough for Freo, but not for WC.

The Adelaide Oval site says "50 000 seated" which is different from Capacity. With the northern bank retained, 55 000 should be possible.

Over in WA Premier Colin Barnett has dropped the International Design competition for the Stadium in favour of the Tender process which is fair enough as there is still competition but within a realistic budget and it's the industry standard.

On the otherside we have the opposition (who were always far more pro Stadium than Barnett) calling on the Premier to dump the WA Stadium in favour of sending $Billions to Western Power for power grid modernisation.

Sporting infrastructure should not be put in front of serious government projects. Hospitals are examples of this.

But I find the idea of scrapping a desperately needed stadium for an upgraded electricity network is absurd. Can we not afford both? Isn't Western Australia the fastest growing state in the country? Doesn't WA make up the majority of trade in Australia?

Absolutely infuriating. This backward state will never progress to its potential. Culture, arts, and sports are pretty integral to a good society. Yet these elements are always foregone.

Forever lagging.

One day someone might relate the story of Perry Lakes Stadium built for the 1962 Comm Games
& the cricket ground in WA is not owned by the taxpayer unlike the MCG . The WACA is owned by the WACA, the Western Australian Cricket Association.
