Does anyone feel as I do that the umpiring in the NAB cup so far has lost the qualities that made it so good during the final series? We have returned to 50 metre penalties for trivial misdemeanours, applied seemingly at random, and without consistency. During last years finals, few free kicks were paid that were not earned, and there was a consistency to what was paid that made the games so much better. NAB cup so far has been all inconsistency. A deliberate out of bounds call to Dane Swan settled the game on Friday. A very similar action (by Sharrod Wellingham) went unpenalised. I support Collingwood, so both calls went my way, but they frustrated me as an indicator of what is to come. Could the umpires coach have his charges view last year's finals and try to emulate what happened there?

Umpires tend to over umpire in NAB - players then tend to be more aware of what they will harp on during the year. Just wish we had a year when nothing changed. Maybe will get it right by 2020:mad:

Going to the game to watch the umpires now....

Poor thing, I thought the footy was why we all went?:D

Umpires in the Richmond Hawk game were ****ing hopeless.

Richmond player gets his head knocked off in the first minute-no free kick.

THen about 1.30 in Vickery gets awarded against when he and his opposing ruck were holding each other.

Us Richmond supporters are all too familiar with the hatred of our club by the umpires.

Wish just one day they'd start to give free kicks on merit and not let their emotions get to them.

McBurney odear.

They are usually great at grand finals.

Hmm-Richmond haven't played in GF's recently.

I see something here.

You have highlighted two free kicks in an entire game.... Do you expect perfection? Because if you do, you won't get it.

Well they are nigh on perfect on Grand Final Day when they know everyone is watching.

No they aren't.... Last year's Grand Final whilst we won, definitely had some errors. No umpire can have the perfect game, it is just the decisions that were incorrect didn't affect the outcome a great deal, hence giving the illusion of perfection.
