Picked this up today, was going to get AFL23 but that ain't happening, so time to delve back into the Star Wars universe.

Have you played the first game in the series, Fallen Order? You absolutely should play FO first, if you haven’t already played it.

Yeah, played the first one, really enjoyed it. I remember it being quite hard, had to down the difficulty to easy just to finish it, this one the same?

Yeah, pretty much.

For those on PC, HUB have done a benchmark for the latest patch. Some massive FPS gains with some cards.

It doesn't matter how much I scrub through that video I can't find where they say what CPU and FSR option they're using. Looks like they're still using the 7800X3D because nobody else is getting those before and after results. Most users don't have those X3D CPUs with a massive cache. This patch was a certain improvement, but like so many others with similar specs to mine I can only do about 55-65 FPS on high without RT and quality FSR at 3440*1440. It's playable now at least but this patch was to fix something that they've obviously known of all along to be able to patch it within a week. The optimisation patches are still coming.

Soooooo apart from the PC performance stuff which I don't really care for...

Is this game any good? Nobody is talking about the actual gameplay in here.

The game itself is fantastic IMO. Nice world to explore, the story is very good, combat is the same as Fallen Order. The only downside, for me personally, is the map is still very confusing. But besides that, the rest of the game would get high marks.

If you have played and enjoyed Fallen Order, you won’t have any problem picking this up and enjoying the game.

The map was an issue I had with the first game. And all the backtracking. Doesn't sound like JS solves those issues.

Might be a wait until it's cheap for me.

I kind of cheated and checked out a video guide for the hard to get through places. I was totally turned around in lots of places and had to go the other way lol. The planets are much larger, so you will definitely see it on a larger scale.

I should add that JS does feature fast travel. So once you finish a mission, you can fast travel back to the Mantis. And you can fast travel to locations you have already visited. So that helps greatly.

Yeah I remember using a video guide quite a bit for the first game. Have no issues cheating my way through if a game is frustrating me.

They've introduced fast travel now between meditation points. I don't find the map very confusing, it feels like it's been tidied up a bit to me. Still the same holographic style but has introduced lines showing your path which I don't think it had in the last game?

It is very similar to the first game though. Exploration has a bit more purpose with the introduction of perks which you find in strange areas and give you combat or similar type boosts, plus they have introduced shops so you can find rare minerals which act as currency - not sure what you can buy with that currency though as haven't tried yet.

Largely is similar to the first game, the main difference being I haven't had to painstakingly backtrack yet - otherwise very similar.

I added more information in my previous post mate. :)

Having just finished off the first game off recently that was also my biggest gripe. I was hoping they would implement a navigation system with this game but doesn't sound like they did. I will still pick it up as the first one was great.

They kinda do, you can turn a setting on if you need nav help and this map shows where you came from and path travelled where previous did not, it just showed places you visited and good luck basically. So it is an update map wise, and with the fast travel options definitely so. IE: current map has yellow trail for where you walked and if you did circles or not, previous map just showed if you went into a room and interests.

Comparison wise.

Far as combat is concerned, it's cleaner than FO in my view, FO was more situational almost where you could kinda chance it and succeed as if plush, this, this is more refined as least on Knight and further that if you just chance it you are getting punted so be more precise than you were in FO on those same difficulties. Overall thus far it feels cleaner and that more thought was put into how it flows than FO was.

I just picked it up so installing now! Can’t wait to play. I will admit though, I’m getting old and suck at games. I struggled with FO and turned the difficulty down.

When I get home from work I like to relax and enjoy my games not rage. 😂

I'm Rheumatic so I just like punishing myself with timed things and in some cases the twitching pays off, in others, not so much. You do learn patience though, haven't broken a controller yet! Am on my 4th mouse though, so, maybe not all that patient now that I think of it...

Ignoring the performance issues at launch, which are really unacceptable and shouldn't be tolerated, it's the best Star Wars game I've played since KOTOR 2. It's an improvement over Fallen Order in almost every aspect.

Yep I'm starting to suck at games too due to me getting older my reflexs in games are not as sharp anymore

Also my passion for gaming is starting to fade.

My passion hasn't died but I can sometimes go weeks or months without playing something but I feel like thats just part of getting older/life. Sometimes I feel too tired after work and by the time my kids have gone to bed!

But I definitely suck more at games now haha

This is why there’s still a place in gaming for shortish, linear experiences.

I’m in the same boat and being able to just jump into a game for an hour and actually achieve something is great.

Enjoying the game so far on xbox, combat feels fine but with multiple enemies in close it gets a bit awkward with the camera imo, best to try and keep everyone in front of you. If that was better the game would rate very highly for me.

Playing on Jedi Master, beat first main story boss on the 2nd try but I think there was a similar one on the first game.
Just beat the 2nd big main story boss last night and it was 10-15 attempts, really struggling with the timing.
I'm mid 30s now so reckon I'm probably much slower these days so not sure if its me or the game that's off, 15 years ago I'd be cruising on the grandmaster difficulty. Strong feeling I will be dropping the difficulty late game.

The frequency of the big beasties is a little annoying tbh and started cruising right past a few if they aren't required, and I skipped the rancor after 3 attempts - will come back later with more health and abilities just to make it a more pleasant experience lol

Touching on the map as people mention, its a little better than the first game. But I wish you could set a waypoint in a explored part of the map which then has BD keep you on track somehow, would be a nice addition.
