Star Trek is rubbish, Star Wars is average.

Personally, I'd throw Star Wars in the same sort of category as the matrix. Both average to good movies but undeserving of the hype.

Must admit i havent seen the older ones but only the 2 new ones, will watch the older ones once ive seen the 3rd prequel so i can enjoy them even more;)

EKA, how old are you? 17, 18?

I cant believe you have never seen the original 3.

they're ok...
the last two were forgettable.. (bar a few scenes in clones)

huge fan when i was a kid...

loved 'caravan of courage' though..

;)

Not a huge fan. I have a friend who is OBSESSED with them. I'm talking about lining up for 2 days to get tickets to the first midnight screening of AOTC. I don't know if she dresses up like them.. but she would be close. Really quite scary.
My brother is also into them.. but he is more of a Trekkie (yes, I am ashamed).

Sci Fi has never interested me in the slightest.

Just guessing, but I doubt you were around in 1977. Star Wars was 10 times bigger than the Matrix. The hype of the two shouldn't be compared. Think Jurassic Park and Titanic mixed together and times by 10.

Star Wars was by far the biggest movie that has come about in my lifetime. The crap new ones are living off the hype created over 25 years ago. Without the original Star Wars (And Empire Strikes Back), the latest installments wouldn't enjoy the hype they recieve. They would be run-of-the-mill movies (if that).

It's a shame that people are sort of pushed into thinking that these Star Wars movies are meant to be so good. What a let down. They should just be told the truth: The new movies are absolte nonsense, but the first two were the absolute dogs-bollocks in their day.

btw Agree about Star Trek. That's just plain nerdy.

A suggestion for anyone under 25:

Watch the old one's when they come on TV. They haven't aged as much as most other movies as they were way ahead of their time when released. Just make sure you take in context that they are 20-25 years old when comparing against current day movies.

I hate science fiction, but the first two releases of Star Wars are about the only science fiction that has grabbed my attention. And Terminator 1.
