And you see Collingwood have kicked a century 846 times and had a century kicked against it 560 times. Under this main table it shows, home, away and finals results against each team.

Given they were there at start in 1897 they have probably kicked the most but try other 7 original teams and maybe Richmond to confirm.

A few dark questions.
The entirety of North Melbourne's 1950 Grand Final team is no longer with us today, and until the death of Billy Picken last year, all of Collingwood's 1980 Grand Final team were still alive. It leads me to wonder:

• What is currently the most recent VFL/AFL line-up (including reserves/interchange) whose players have all since sadly departed?
• What is currently the most distant VFL/AFL line-up (including reserves/interchange) whose players are all still alive today?
• Is the departed team more recent than the surviving team?
• What is the shortest time between a VFL/AFL team playing a match and the last surviving player from that team passing away?

There are numerous instances of twins drafted to different clubs, but Harry and Ben have now been on lists for 7 full seasons and a combined 137 games with neither having played in a final.

Are there any comparable brothers/twins who have so successfully avoided finals football.

This was in Round 10 2003 between the mid-ladder North Melbourne and the last-placed Western Bulldogs at Docklands, a match won by the Kangaroos by 11-points, 24.12-156 to 22.13-145. It is just the third 300-point game since the start of the century, with the others being North over Richmond early in 2000 and Essendon's famous comeback win over North Melbourne in 2001.

Although the standard of games has improved somewhat with rule changes from the start of 2021 that has resulted in better standard matches with more free-flowing play and higher scoring that is way better than the many terrible standard, low-scoring matches that blighted football especially from 2017-2020, the scoring is nowhere near as high as it was even in the 2000s, so I won't be holding my breath for a 300 point game this year, or coming years.

However, does anyone know the highest scoring matches from 2003 onwards? IIRC there was a pretty high-scoring match between Gold Coast and GWS around 2013 or 2014, the West Coast Eagles were playing reasonably free-scoring football in the early 2010s and Essendon and the Brisbane Lions got close to 300 points in the late 2000s, but if anyone could post a list of the highest scoring games after 2003 this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Falconista, those Dockers ones from the mid 2000s are a far cry from the Dockers team of the mid 2010s a decade later, that despite being a finalist played very low-scoring, and uninteresting football.

Thanks for the replies, I remember some of these games now. Another high-scoring game post 2011 was the 21.22-148 to 16.8-104 win by the Gold Coast over the GWS Giants in Round 5 2013 in Canberra.

I hope we see higher scoring matches in coming seasons, for example in 2019 there were just 3 games where both teams scored 100 points or more.

Another Eagles game from the early 2010s I remember is the one between West Coast and the GWS Giants at Subiaco in 2014, which turned into a shootout and a 30.8-188 to 12.5-77 win to the Eagles. Even though it ended in a 111-point win in the end, it was a good standard game and very entertaining.

I used to enjoy watching West Coast Eagles games in this era, as they were one of the few teams that had a more open style of play that had higher rates of scoring, would take risks and allow the players to display their skills, rather than engaging in the low-scoring, low-standard, ultra-defensive tactics that were increasingly blighting the AFL by this time, and which would become the normal type of game by the late 2010s.

2 games i think deserve a mention - and they were both at the old Lake Oval - South Melb home ground

Now your Magpie supporting mate - EMU Boy - is fascinated by Sth Melb v Geel games in the 1970s - he quoted so many bizarre games - particularly with Sth Melb winning - hah - you know - they hadnt won a game for a season and they beat Geel by a pt - and did it 2 years running - ha - ha -ha

Bottom line - in that decade - both clubs were basically no good at all - but the 2 games im going to quote - they were both half decent at the time around 5th to 8th - and in one of the games there was a little bit riding on it

Round 20 - 1978 Geel are 5th ( in a final 5 ) and Sth Melb are 1 game out of the 5 but with a superior % - so a win and they leapfrog Geel - have a look at the qtr by qtr scores
