Thanks for making my point for me.

Luke Parker actually trains and plays.

Arent we paying players to play?

Thanks for your concern, but we are all good with Fyfe. His leadership and experience are gold for us, our young kids have a 2 x Brownlow medalist to lean on.

Typically our top draft picks live with Fyfe to learn how to be a pro when they join the club, and Fyfe is as professional as they come.

Maybe take a peak in your own backyard for your list - Taylor Adams perhaps?

The system allows it in the modern game. You are no longer paid to perform as you were in the past. Ay player getting 800k or more should be winning games for their team and be easily finishing in top 3 in their best and fairest. Clubs now pay enormous money to players and they have no accountability these players. Turn up and just get the money based on potential or what if's is the current mantra.
Once you are earning big money their is no excuses, you either play as a star or you should not be getting paid as a star.

I realise Eagles fans dont have much to hold on to.
But Allen just isnt very good. Hes not a "young talent" anymore. Hes just bog average.

Spent the first part of his career as a defender and back up ruck

Up forward was Kennedy and Darling, at most he was going to be third tall

Hard to kick goals in that situation, if you actually knew his career you would understood this

McKay brothers are up there. Both earning over $1,000,000+ per season and at best, only worth half that with the kind footy they produce.

Tom Lynch is another one. Been one of the highest paid players for a long time and was semi decent five years ago.
Harry has been reported around the $850k mark and made the AA squad last season.

Nonsense names here. Rather than looking at "stealing a wage" for current performance, should be based off overall performance over life of current contract, injuries aside.

Is T Lynch still on earlier contract. Maybe it was heavily back ended? He was a big part in a few of their flags.

Likewise Fyfe king time servant....let freo give him some extra coin for time served if they want.

JUH is a real thief. AFL need to step in if he "miraculously" comes good for his next team.

Does this include AFL listed players that never seem to make it out of the VFL (or state-league equivalent)? As they would probably be getting paid more than their state-league counterparts while playing at a lower level.

Given an 18 or 19 year old draftee gets paid basically a third of a stand-alone club salary cap in the WAFL (can't find the number) or VFL (reported 260k), fair question. SANFL is 360k apparently.

Since he is opting out of attending official club events, should he even be getting paid his full wage?

Wouldn't there be some breach of contract involved???

isn't there a limit to the number of events required under contract? Until the Dogs reach a point where they don't have that number of events remaining there may be little they can do.

Which players are either over rated, over paid, or regularly not putting in the effort in the two hours a week that matter, game day.

I'll start

Ben McKay (is he the most over paid player in AFL/VFL history?)
JUH
Dylan Shiel
Andrew McGrath
Jade Gresham
Lachie Fogarty
Mitch McGovern
Isaac Quaynor
Tom Cole
Oscar Allen
Jayden Hunt
Tom McDonald
Bailey Fritsch
Harrison Petty
Nat Fyfe
The Sydney team that clocked in and clocked out, at the 2024 grand final.

The only accountability for clubs is not signing players to shit contracts.

What on earth has Mac Andrew done to warrant a 9 year contract? Yes it's 5 + 4 but he's played 41 games and came 6th in the B&F once. Zero career BOGs.

The AFLPA have managed to engineer a system where there is no cap on contract length, no cap on individual contract value and players are protected if they are injured or medically retired, and if a club wants to offload a player because they aren't giving value for money then the player has to agree to it. Meanwhile if you sign a modest contract then turn into a star it is almost expected that the club will renegotiate or it is your right to demand a trade. Joke of a system.

Agree, just a terrible system where how you perform means nothing.

It's supply and demand.

There is a lot more money in the system as a result of sports gambling and not enough good players to fill 18 clubs. I have no idea how they will fill 19.

People will point at "population growth" and "Auskick" but neither of those things are producing more players.

Most new migrants are Indian and Chinese and they aren't interested in playing footy.
Auskick is largely glorified babysitting.

Interest in the game and fan numbers are clearly up but not necessarily serious players aged 16 to 19. The key ages for player production.
