It feels like Sidebottom has been going around forever. If it wasn’t for Pendlebury, Sidey would be the games-played-for-Collingwood record holder.

However, there is another player who joined Collingwood in that 2008 - 2009 off season who is still going around in the AFL.

Pop Quiz: Who is it?

Lachlan Keeffe. He’s still on GWS’ list and playing. He played the last two weekends (yeah, surprised me too)

In the time Sidebottom has played 330 AFL games, Keeffe has only played 113 AFL games

and his wiki stats havent been updated since he left collingwood

When he played midfield earlier in the season I thought he really performed well. He could have made all the difference if he played there against Gold Coast, Essendon, Hawthorn, Geelong and the Western bulldogs. Especially when Pendlebury and DeGoey went down. It's easy with hindsight but with Steele in the middle, we might have played finals this season.

Yep, you would have thought they would have figured it out in the North game.

Didn't expect the final version of Steele to be a tagger, but here we are. Makes total sense when you think about his tank and game sense. One of the greatest players to ever play for our club finding a way to contribute late in his career - you love to see it

No reason he can't play at least 2 more years

Can’t help but think Steele’s consistency/longevity gets overshadowed by Pendles. Over 20 disposals on average across 331 games. 14th on the all time possessions list. Extraordinary.

There was a time, not so long ago, when posters on here (me included) used to bemoan the ‘fact’ that Collingwood players didn’t seem to have the longevity of other clubs, and were finished before reaching 30.

Happily, Steele, Pendles, Howe, etc, have buried that myth. And not only is it buried, players like Steele are playing some of the best (more mature, more responsible, more helpful!) footy of their careers!

Love what Sidey has done this year and continues to do.

Fact the bloke can run all day, and he gets mad white line fever too, it’s just so perfect for him to be a tagger.

He also somehow gets plenty of the footy himself while he’s tagging.
