fairly good game i thought, has actually been quite impressive in both his games and slotted in well.

do you expect him to play much more throughout the year.
looks like he will be a real player, IMO will be better than yarran

sounds like a dreamteam/supercoach question ;)

he'll get more games thats for sure, but i wouldnt put him down to play every game. needs to fill out. good to give him a taste but at some stage will probably be sent back to the vfl to further his development there..

He's a very good pickup for us, is just a ball magnet, and he uses very well.

I'd expect he would play most games from here on in, although he may be rested for a week at some stage, like most young players are.

Don't be too tough on Yarran, most small/medium indigenious players take 2-3 years before they show their true potential, as shown by Leon Davis, Cortney Dempsey and Andrew Lovett.

Both players would be 10 years players for their clubs I would expect.:thumbsu:

He has played 2 games and shown some promise. V early days.

If you read the boards here and probably with most other teams posters seem to hype every kid that has a reasonable 1st couple of games and then tear them down when they dont star every week a season later.

To mention him as a 10 year player and the like beggars belief at this stage. A few weeks ago Beams was being touted as a likely RS contender on the back of a good 1st 2 games. Barham won a RS nomination in his 1st game. Big expectations were immediately created for McCarthy, Wellingham, Clarke etc

Not everyone is a Judd. Even guys like Ablett, Ball, Delidio, Hodge had v up and down starts to their career.

Dont get carried away by Sidebottom yet, he will most likely get games this year, give him a few more seasons of development into him before we know about the 10 yr tag

Sidebottom is an interesting one, he seems to be one of those guys who just racks them up without you even noticing, i think hes done well but not great in his first few games but the upside is huge he knows how to get the footy and where to go, he has very very good footy smarts but athletically not great and isnt quick i would compare him to a Jobe Watson or James Kelly very unasuming but damaging in the same sense.

Great post GC. Absolutely spot on.

To answer your DT/SC question. I think he's pretty safe for this week. This will be his 3rd game and most important in DT/SC terms. If your thinking about trading him in, wait until Friday when you know he has been selected. With the big ins we have coming Didak, Medhurst and Thomas, they all could potentially oust Sidebottom this week.

If you have already got him then just hope he plays this week so you can make money off him!

As for longevity this year. I'd expect him to miss about 4 weeks from here on. If he plays the next 5 games he's worth getting. If he misses this week expect it to mean more than 1 week in the 2's.

MM has already stated something like "We have really found something here. As soon as he fills out a bit he'll be a regular" It was too that effect.

sidebottom,beams,pendles,thomas,clarke, mccarthy and wellingham

im hoping they all come along for our midfield, im probably doing what posters have said not to in this thread. But as a supporter though im pretty excited about the prospect of these kids playing together for a long time.

Just have to look at the geelong midfield. Theyve grown together, lets hope ours does the same.

There is NEVER anything wrong with a bit of optimism around here. The place gets full of pessimists.

I for 1 am CERTAIN that we wont lose another match all year. ALL YEAR. Hell Yes. Do it This week for Tarks!

Go Pies!

Two future guns in Steele and Mr. Beams, very happy with how they are both progressing. Should -along with Pendles and JMac- form the nucleus of our midfield engine room for years to come.

Sidebottom was named on the ground and not on the bench for last week, which suggests to me that the coaching staff are pretty happy with him and see him as being ahead of a few others (currently in the side) for selection.

He should stay in there unless injured or having a noticeable dropoff in output, which often happens with bottom-aged draftees or even top-aged recruits in their first year. Sidebottom in particular was noted as someone who needed his workload to be managed in U18's, as he was given a modified training program in the week before kicking 10 goals in the TAC Cup GF.

Did any of you catch the commentry stuff up on the weekend???
Cant remember who it was, but he referred to Steele Sidebottom as :

"Side Steelbottom"

It was mildly amusing.....

Yeah saw that think it was Watson who is oblivious to faux pas anyway as he would never have guessed his sons nickname would be head growing up??????

Judd's just lucky he didn't self destruct upon contact with Steele.
haha, although he still has a lot of filling out to do he is great 1 on 1 and has great composure. his skill is abnormal by getting rid of it but hand or foot, both sides of the body. he has clean posession and never wastes the footy, will be a great solid midfielder/ forward in the near future.:thumbsu:

Sidebottom is going to be very very good for the Pies. Sidebottom and Beams. We can happy witht that... and Blight looks the goods too.

Yeah I lol'd too when he ran into goal against Collingwood on the weekend. :thumbsu:
Did you 'lol' when he missed a set shot from directly in front about 25 metres out?

All Yarran did was provide the finishing touches on Judd's hard work in close. It seems you used your first pick on a guy who'll just finish off hard work, miss simple set shots and rob houses.

Hot stuff.

How does this make Yarran any different from Thomas? ;) :p

Collingwood's defenders must be poor if Yarran kicked a goal, missed another and set up Stevens' goal after roving Kreuzer's tap...

Two or three goals is a poor day's work for just 50% TOG...
