From [Re: WA Watch - Who you'll see come draft day; #37]
<<<Stephen Hill is a good call by one poster, comes out of Quinns juniors but been in WP colts for a couple of years now. Suffered a bit early I think from being in weak teams with lack of coaching (only game plan: kick it to Stephen) but whereas the above poster called him skinny, I would have said wiry strength and this kid has a big motor. Left footed from memory but capable on the right (cf Rich). If I had to pick an existing AFL player he most resembles, I'd probably say Jared Brennan. Big call, I know, but ...>>>
Lifted from an earlier post - haven't seen Stephen since but it seems his stocks are up!

Yer Quinns.... can you find me this post please Eminbee ? Does the game plan "kick it to Stephen" refer to WP colts or his junior footy side ?

I would take him with a pick in the 30's

Not routinely clean and his decision making can be a little off to warrant a top 20 pick in a strong draft.

every draft is a strong draft:rolleyes:.. he'll be long gone by pick 30 IMO..

2002 was a "strong draft" this one is just your regular one IMO

next year has the potential to be "strong draft" i'm starting to think

I agree Hilly is going to be 1 of the best player's Australia has ever seen...I got a lot of respect for this young man...but like you i'm also a bit biased seen this kid play footy for a long time and having him here at my house with my son being his best mate...Aussie rules is in for real treat.

Your description reminds me of Steven Browne who is a neat player and will make it, but lacks the decision making and skill of a Palmer and Masten.

I hope Hill's there if we have a good pick in the thirties or late twenties.

The Blues need more flair and run.
He wont be around in the 30's.
You could search for and find posts where people said Steven Browne wouldn't fall out of the top 20 last year. It will come down to how many talls and rucks are taken to address the needs of the clubs with their second and third round picks.

The 2002 draft was average.

There wasn't one out and out superstar taken in that draft.

There is nothing that gets on my goat more than people taking the piss saying "Every Draft is a strong draft" Its only the idiots and media journos that trout out that line every year. The guys that actually are in the business know full well the strength and depth of the drafting talent.

When a kid can run a sub 2.9 second time and has some beautiful foot skills, there isnt a chance that he will be left in the 30's. Dont discount this kid from breaking into the top 10.

I don't care how quick he is - J-ON & Tambling were quicker and had better skills & reputations pre draft.

When you are under 6ft, run yourself into trouble and kick to shocking options a fair bit - you are not worth a top 20 draft pick. I like Hill - I like a lot of players more than him though.

He reminds me a lot of Nicoski - people see the long goals from outside 50 and then label him a great kick - they don't see the amount of times they shank the ball in the midfield or off half back.

I would MUCH prefer Michael Walters or Sam Blease if I was going for a skinny outside type - both are several classes above Hill IMO.

See Jarrad Oakley Nicholls:eek: I think he is very similare to Jarrad, in that he looks good at the level as he can run and carry with little pressure. Wait till the kid is put under pressure with the big boys, he is too light to break tackles and his skills under pressure against the Vic's in the carnival wasnt great.

has been named in the bests the last 3 games for WA agians NSW, SA, VC where do you rekon he will get drafted? what round

I really like Hill, and I think a club could pull the trigger on him late first round, or early second. Top 25 pick for mine.

You can keep beating that drum but I don't hear many listening. Anyone who saw him stitch up Hamish Hartlett knows he's a talent. A first rounder for mine with enormous scope for improvement. Saying he will last till pick 30 is simply not realistic.

i think Hill could be drafted anywhere from 5 - 35 and can be the case with many players having a large range of spots they could go.

I dont think people should question his skill but maybe his decision making. He is a fitness machine and super quick and when you put those attributes together with speed he could become a fine footballer. Likely to be a pick 15 - 25 IMO and Richmond and Tigers are the favs for him. remind me a bit of Palmer last year where palmer had a super carnival but wasnt considered a top pick before hand same goes for Hilly.

U clearly watching a way different Hill than i'm watching.

JON couldnt find the footy at junior level and guess what he cant find the footy at senior level. U mighta rated JON be4 he was drafted, but i thought he was a chump. Please dont put JON and Hill in the same sentence. They are that close to polar opposites its not funny.

Yes and you could search for and find plenty of threads where people have predicted players will go before a certain pick and they do.
It is an opinion and it has a 50/50 chance of being right or wrong.

Word from the east Adam Cockie will go high in the list, 19 yrs played for WA State Team and played all games for Subiaco this year, either in the midfield or across the backline. Last year won the colts F & B. Word also has it a couple of colts boys from Subiaco might be in the mix for at least rookie selection. Is there a sight which has stats for the WA local football as some names have been mentioned want to check the stats before posting.

Yeah, if Richmond get Hill with their 1st pick their recruiting manager deserves a slap in the face - they have more than enough of his type.

Funny i would have thought sides could use as many highly skilled players who can run 15km plus in a game as they could get

They have enough small running back flankers/wingman already (Newman/McMahon/King/JO-N/Raines etc. - FAR better off going for a high quality tall (Vickery/Hurley/Johnston) or inside midfielder (Hartlett or Ziebell) with the 1st pick.

I think he is worth pick 7,8 or 9 by Richmond but they could get hiom later on but i dont think they will risk it especially if they have pick 8 or 9 they will take him.

He can play wing, onball HBF or as a tagger and probably be a good HFF. he has a huge motor, 2.9 sec (20 metre sprint speed), great agility, the top 4 kicks in the carnival and maybe the best that i saw, versatile and can play as a tagger or ball possession winner.

Eagles will snavel him up at pick 18 or 20 if he is taken by Richmond.

A.Cockie i have been the one saying he will be about pick 30 - 40 and no one has listened thank god someone has brought his name up he is playing onball and is an 89 birthday for subiaco league and there the best side by far. Him and Rich couldnt have been split watching the league abillity a WA side could get him at a late pick eg: 30-40.

who are the other good subi players: edgar and blenchyden but not much more they arnt full of talent. S.Martin plays reserve/league and is an 88 or 89 birthday who could be a rookie selection and maybe Trent Dennis Lane

Good to see at least eight from Subiaco comming over here to the east for interviews and try outs with a number of clubs this weekend as a believe Subiaco have a buy in their local rounds. Has anybody got their names as I have been told that they are all from their league side. Also heard that there is a boy from the colts been training with the league side for the past four weeks and some weeks ago was second in the vote count in a show called waflon(or similiar) anybody got any names as I have been told this kid runs all day has a beep test of 14.9, plays in the midfield and could be a smokey come draft day.
