Which bit do you feel has been blown out of proportion?

The parts where many on this board have full turned on the CEO, who up until 2 weeks ago was flying, calling him a f**k head, a f ing bald headed flog, f ing campaigner, moron, telling him to F off out of our club, that all of a sudden he’s crap, he’s a nobody.

This sort of stuff.

All because. a HS article said a few things.

Lets say he toured Ellis without SOS knowing, ok it’s not great, but it’s not a hangable offence, SOS and his team and the club moved on to other targets.

The issues I’ve been told that are there are purely a disagreement on the structure of the recruiting team, SOS isn’t happy with how the CEO and I assume the board want to do it, moving forward.

If the roles were reversed and SOS was the CEO we would be having the exact opposite argument.

Sounds like a leadership moment opportunity for the Judge.

To his credit we’ve got a series of individuals who are excellent at their roles. Liddle appears to be very good performing the core responsibilities of a CEO role, SOS we know about. Time will tell re: Teague but the courage to change course in his selection was evident. Russell, etc. The club is set up to deliver.

Now he needs to sit these folk down and make it clear who is doing what, and what the operating model of the club is. There are strong personalities involved, empowered by their individual competence and history of performance - they’re likely not going to be able to achieve equilibrium without some strong leadership and accountability to that leader.

In this situation that can only come from the President. Over to you, Judge.

Looking at it now Ellis’ manager was in the right. We stuffed him around but I’m also not sure if his manager was doing his job either if he hadn’t spoken to SOS???? If had only talked to Liddle that seems very strange and negligent. If he had talked to other members on SOS’ team then the entire situation looks even worse for us.

I still tend to disagree. Frankly, at the end of the day, I don't think Silvagni played as big a role as what is being published..

We had an offer on the table for Ellis that his manager had agreed with.

Gold Coast gave an offer above and beyond what we offered.

His manager demanded that we improve the offer to Ellis. We declined. His manager got Ellis to Gold Coast on maximum coin.

He's done the right thing by his client if drawing maximum value is the goal. Good on Ellis if it was. However, if a better salary than what Richmond offered was in Ellis's best interests while also staying in Melbourne then I think the manager undermined Ellis.

Yep.. I think i better shut up..

I hope you can/will share your opinion when all is said and done. Respect your need to be quiet while it plays out.

Read my post again. I said nothing about leaving him alone or not being accountable. Nothing. My post was about respect. I didn’t suggest what you thought I did at all. Don’t call my posts BS if you neither properly read them or understand them.

Read it again, and I still see a rant that demands SOS get respect because of his name and resorts to calling the CEO a campaigner which I assume is because his name isn’t synonymous with Carlton.

Sorry if this isn’t case

if it’s his opinion why does must he wait till all said and done?
I’m starting to get very confused with all the secrecy and little bits of info that come

Having now read Jon Andersons column this whole thing is a massive crock.
1) Silvagni is reported to have been open to getting Ellis but not for the sort of money offered by the Suns - guess what we didn't take Ellis because he wanted to much.
2) SOS was lukewarm on Betts and wanted him more for his off field stuff, Teague (and the players) was the one driving the Betts bus and guess what SOS got Betts for a price that reflects SOS value of him.
3) SOS didn't want DeLuca - given DeLuca is now delisted I can believe this but it is hard to beliege SOS would get hi s nose out of joint over a mid-season roll of the dice.
4) That leaves Papley - nowhere in the article does it say SOS didn't want Papley, simply the illogical claim that SOS "wasn't involved in the process" - which given how long we were rumoured to be into Papley would require SOS to actively remove himself from he process.

Isn't it much more logical that having set a 5 year plan and now about to embark on his 5th draft SOS might just want to not "be involved in football next year - other than watching sons Jack and Ben play for the Blues"

There’s a BIG difference between not being happy with SOS’ later picks and wanting Liddle to take control of list management.

Doesn’t mean those posters are saying SOS is doing a bad job overall, simply that later picks is an area SOS could do better at.

Running a business by removing someone that could do better in 15% of their role is, well, bad business. Particularly when they’ve done a very good job elsewhere. You just work at improving that 15%.

All going well, in 5 short years, Silvagni has brought in:

Charlie Curnow, Mckay, Weitering, Walsh, SPS, Fisher, Dow, Marchbank, Stocker, DeKoning, Kennedy, Setterfield, McGovern, Plowman, Jack Silvagni, O'Brien, Cuningham, Martin, Pick 9

That's potentially 19 top shelf, young talented players and people are worried about what he's doing with late picks? I would give all our late picks away for nothing if SOS keeps doing what he's doing

He's also brought in Gibbons, Williamson, Cottrell, Newman, Newnes, Pittonett, Betts, Goddard for next to nothing

This guy should be investigated for cheating the system, not questioned about underperforming.

100% agree with all of this

I don’t think B70 needs to be quiet, just make sure what he is articulating is truthful/factual....everyone can then make up their own minds.

I can feel a Caro bullshit article coming very soon, been far too quiet from her in relation to this story...I’d prefer to know facts and defend than to know scuttlebutt and leave Caros version as the most logical version

Membership numbers are pretty good.
I'd say the membership numbers are due to fans realising we have bottomed out, and that we now have a list that is going places.
This is all due to ah......SOS
Nothing to do with Twiddle.

Have no idea why Ellis would have thought he’d get to Carlton anyway given he was only going to get a minor pay increase. I get the feeling Pask thought we’d cave, and he’d get his 600k.

The obvious decision was to sound out Gold Coast and use Carlton’s initial interest to top-up the contract.

it was made clear SOS didn’t want to recruit Betts and most here were more than happy for SOS to be overruled by Teague, Lloyd and Liddle.

But all hell breaks lose when it comes out the CEO toured Ellis (shouldn’t have) despite SOS and co refusing to up their offer and telling him to get stuffed.

Recruiting Betts is by far the bigger issue, but hey, we love Eddie so it’s all good and we just appointed Teague so he gets a free pass.

Do people not see their own bias at work here and how overblown this has become?
