Stokes or McGlynn??

I think clarko played stokes in the wrong position last night. he was on marty clarke who was about a head taller and just could not effect a spoil when the ball was kicked in the air on the wing. He fumbled in the back line and didnt look at his best. Should be played permanently in the forward line and his let his goal kicking instict take over and Cyril should get the job up the ground.

well said :thumbsu:

Though Stokesy is a damn fine mid-fielder :)

Good sign with Tuck is that he's a ball magnet. The guy gets heaps of the ball, has a knack of positioning himself in the right place. All he has to do is increase his disposal skills and poise on the ball and he'll be an absolute star.

Agree with Tucky, he is a ball magnet and is as tough as nails, this bloke will play heaps of footy for the Hawks.

definitely would select Benny over Stokes at this stage. Benny has a great pair of hands for a small bloke and provides incredible attack on the ball. also has the ability to kick a couple which stokes has not shown at senior level.

McGlynn over Stokes if thats the argument.

Neither in our current best 22. Ossie / Young in for Stokes nest week for our best 22 for the year.

Mind you, surely the marketing team want Crawf to miss next week so I would expect Young and Ossie in (Young also better than Stokes and McGlynn).

I would rather McGlynn over Stokesy. Having said that its great to get some experience into Stokes as I think he will only get better from it.

At this stage though and for a possible finals campaign I would have to say McGlynn.

Unfortunatly there is not a spot for either of them.

Ossie come in for Stokes, with Young next in line if either Dew or Craw don;t come up or Murphy drops off.

I would go for McGlynn as he has matured enough to set up plays, let alone grab it and handball it out.

Last night I saw a number of fumbles and poor disposal from Stokes that makes me think that heading in to a September campaign BMac is more impportant in tht small forward defensive pressure type role.

Stokesy was around it a bit last night, but I can't help feel that he is 2009-2010 regular senior.

Who would you put in going in to September (presuming BMac fully fit)??

Mglynn also provides much needed run something that would please Changa.

Agree with you re Oz for Stokes. Stokes was just passable against the Woods but he has missed a fair chunk of the season and there is plenty of upside longterm for him.

McGlynn I feel if fully fit, would make for a great addition to the side for the finals. IMO I believe he was marked to take over from Vanders as the run with tagger with a bit of grunt and hardness at the ball and man. Injury has prevented that to this stage but he is the type that could really sit on a player like Selwood, Bartel, Cooney, Griffen and make sure they know they are in a contest.

But who gets left out for him to play that role is the bigger question.

Let's remember, Hoops was leading the comp in inside 50's up until mid 2007 before teams realised the damage he was doing.

Positives: hard runner, hard tackler and very aggresive in the packs (which AC loves)
Negatives: Disposals (which improve with games under his belt)

He needs at least 2 runs at BoxHill before playing seniors. If he doesn't do this before finals, he'll struggle to get a game in the finals!

Definately in our best 22 when up and running.

Think with stokes in he frees up rioli more to do his thing, mglynn has bit of a temper, do we want do risk him getting suspended during a finals campaign or is it best to keep the current list together to gain some trust and confidance in each other coz they have been playing regular games together..
Not sure about the temper. Just a bit more 'unsociable' than most.
Anyway I dont think its an issue. Stokes is currently in Osbornes spot.

Osborne and Young are the only two missing from our 22. Ossie should be fit for the Lions and Youngy played for Box Hill.
Think that Ossie will replace Stokes against BL. Then who does Youngy come in for? I guess I may be wrong saying he is in our best 22?

Young would need to disslodge Dew probably. However if Dew plays the last 4 and increases his game time slowly, he will play as his finals experience and big body will be invaluable if he stays fit. Although he has played 8 games, his selection at 45 could still be a masterstroke if he plays well in finals. Lets not forget Dewy will have a greater impact in 2009 than this year.

Youngy might rely in injury. Or a change in structure allowing Murphy to come out for him.

Mcglynn will definately play finals if fit...of that there is zero doubt.

Osborne and Mcglynn are the only players that will come into the side that played against Collingwood.

Osborne in for Stokes.

McGlynn in for Murphy.

There is absolutely no doubt that McGlynn will get that nod IF and it is a big if , he is fit.

Next in line would be Young, Stokes, Morton & Tucky...in that order..

Stokes get the nod infront of Morto & Tucky due to his pace and tackling pressure..it is superb and top 2-3 at the club.

You gotta be kidding me! Why on earth would Clarko drop Murphy! He has been playing his best footy in his last couple of games. He plays a big role in our defence, allows Brown to play in the forward. Clarko loves Murphy, he adds another dimension to our defence especially when one of our key backmen are having a bad day refer to the Geelong game when Guerra was getting smashed by Johnson. Let me tell you Murphy is guaranteed to play Finals.

Mighty mouse would come in for Stokes!

Full squad and he does not get a gig..Nothing against the kid but that's what will happen if we have a fully fit list to pick from...I actually agree with you that Murphy has been good that last 2-3 weeks.

However Gilham, Croad, Brown, Guera, Birchall, Ladson are our starting back six...Hodge, Ellis & Dew will rotate through defence.

Osborne & McGlynn will rotate through the midfield/Forward line and they will come in for Stokes & Murphy.

Brown will get the gig on Johnson next time round and will destroy him.:thumbsu:

McGlynn & Ozzie will be applying the forward pressure with McGlynn giving us added grunt & run in the middle.

We had it all over them for pace last time round and rest assured we'll add to that come finals.:thumbsu:

Birchall, Ladson and Guerra are attacking backman, they provide run. We have Gilham, Croad, Murphy and Brown who are our key defensive players. I like Murphy he has excellent ball skills and is gaining confidence with every game. If Murphy is playing consistent footy he will not get dropped. Can you imagine if he does you would destroy him. Clarko is not the type to drop someone because of another players name.

Players who have been injured and are coming back into the team will need to earn there spots. Like Young he needs to earn his spot.

I'm sorry to tell you this, Mightymouse will not get a gig until one of our midfielders get injured. He hasn't been playing footy, low on fitness, and butchers the ball when he goes forward!

Murphy has cemented his spot in the team, like Gilham. He has a big role to play!

And when we play Geelong again, Brownie will be playing as a defensive forward on HARLEY. Also next time we will have Milburn to worry about!

Sorry GoBuddy...the coaching staff rate McGlynn very highly and if he gets enough runs on the board he's playing finals.

AC has said it before...Finals is all about the pressure you place on the other team...

Not sure about that, my opinion is based on having all players fit and available....this may well be unlikely anyway.

Given that, i'd expect the back 6 to be made up of the players mentioned above and Murphy may well miss.

McGlynn & Osborne for mine provide far greater flexibilty, running power, goal kicking power, pressure, tackling & grunt and i think we'll go with that given the choice.

Both Geelong and Doggies have run and not 3 big talls and i recon we have them both covered in that regard.

Hasn't Stoker just dropped out of the sky. One preseason under his belt. Good finder of the footy. And lays tackles.

Benny hits the footy harder than anyone in the AFL.

They are only similar in height in terms of what they bring. For now BMac.

Not sure on this talk about Murphy cementing his spot in the team. He can very indecisive which is a bit of a worry for a backman. And he still makes a few fumbles in each game. Don't get me wrong, he is looking like he will develop into a solid key defender, but I stress the word develop.

At this point in his career I wouldn't say he has cemented a spot just yet.

If we are serious about heading into the finals, I say we need all hands on deck. Benny Mc needs game time in the ones. The perfect in for if/ when Crawf is out. Great depth if and when we need it.
No question of Ozzie or Benny Mc in for stokes. Ozzie has been solid gold this year, and even last year heading into the finals, when his form wasnt so hot, he got the nod ahead of McGlynn. Unfortunately, Ozzie has stepped up and cemented his possie. Benny Mc has effectivey just stood still at most. A rea shame this year for him. He was opne I expected to come out all guns blazing and have a huge year.

Stokes has done very well this year, and played his role well. He just isnt up to doing what the others can bring to the side, YET! His time will come though.

Cant see Murphy getting roped into the argument either. Hes holding his spot alright. Would prefer Dewy over Youngy too.
