Its all coming together nicely.. rankine and Lukosius this year with demons first rounder from lever.

Doubt those 2 would fall like Fogarty. Unless they both get Injured.

How highly both are Rated teams probably still draft them even IF they Interviewed Poorly

Local kid was told by essendon that theywould take him in the second round most likely.
Bombers didnt take him 2nd or 3rd round and he ended up being taken late by an interstate club where he is going ok.
Essendon inquired about whether he wanted to come home.
Dodoro was told in no uncertain terms the answer.
Hartigan?

Not sure about Melbourne or W.A. teams, but it'd be hard for a Northern Club to draft any of the S.A. kids if they genuinely tanked their interviews.

Brisbane desperately need a KPF to run with Hipwood, and Lukosius would make for an awesome partnership. But we simply can't risk losing any more talented kids to go home factor. Stories out of our club are that we really are changing the way scout kids and rank/rate them heading in to the draft.

Really?

Would be surprised given he seems pretty professional and a 'good' kid from the interviews etc i've seen of him so far.
Would be really stupid to jeopardise your footy career like that after years of hard work...unless he didn't want West Coast to recruit him.

I don't think a 17 or 18 year old kid being smashed makes them a bad kid or unprofessional. I mean probably the interview was booked but things happen, or you sleep in etc. People forget these draftees in the stories are still in high school. If they **** up an interview it's weird that the clubs would blacklist them unless it was a go-home type thing (i.e. Wingard).

Recon wingard did similar in his draft year, GWS were keen but made it clear he would be back in SA at first possible chance.

Would not Shock me at All IF he said that and that is why the Vic Teams Passed when he was Easily best Available

Brisbane are in a situation where if they had pick 1 again they would have to pick the best kid available who is a limited risk of a go home factor, so he might be the 5th or the 6th best player on paper, but he would be the best option for Brisbane as they might fear the 4 better players would go home at the first available opportunity. Better to go for a player that is slightly less talented who would be willing to stay in Brisbane.

Not totally sold on this point anymore but as a Lions supporter it was forefront of the mind with every draftee. There still will be draftees who up and go at the first opportunity but we've done ok with the last two draft crops and currently willing to back us in to resign them..........well at least for just one contract extension.

Go home factor doesn't really exist when the team wins more than it loses.

This has been discussed a LOT on the Lions board.

We saw it with our recruiters player rankings for last years draft where our recruiters didn’t rank any player considered an extreme flight risk. (And Stephenson was left out due to health reasons.

It is interesting that our recruiters ranked Fogarty as the 5th best kid in last years draft. This suggests Fogarty may have not been the flight risk some have suggested.

I know a bit has been made about Sam Walsh being a Lions fan/supporter on the Lions board since last year.

GWS keep losing talented kids, even though they’re winning.

We've done a very good job of retaining kids. Not all stick around for the entirety of their careers, but the vast majority stick around past their initial 2 year contracts.

Don't quite agree with that, majority of guys they have lost (talented as they are) were in a logjam for positions in the side.

Guys like Wilson were just an unfortunate situation for them, nothing really could've been done.

The Team a Player Supports don't normally get's Brought up when Looking at Players I would Reckon

Certainly less of a factor, but the Dogs did lose Hamling to the go home factor after winning the flag. Adams also requested to go back to WA.

My original post was never meant to be a "pot shot" at the (current) Lions. I mean there was never a "go home factor" when they won 3 flags on the bounce.

And your post rings true also.

Granted you do support a Victorian team so the odds of a "go home factor" are diminished somewhat, but even with that you lost a very, very good player who was tantamount to your amazing success in 2016

No one is immune from it. But, generally, the more successful you are, the less players you lose.
