Storm's plan to get under the Cap

Yet in all the statements being made..... No one is saying they are innocent ;)

The cowards didn't front for their interviews, didn't produce documents, therefore if anyone comes out and says they beleive they knew about, the players instantly have a defamation case.

Yet they are continually going out of their way to not say the words "innocent" or "exonerated"

;)
Cowards? Maybe. Maybe not. Perhaps they all said as a group, 'we are not doing the interviews because there was no amnisty and if it's one out, it's all out.'

hehe

There are some MIA (On most threads) regulars I wouldn't have tried that on.

& yup bring on 2011, an under the cap, competitive Melbourne is good for RL :thumbsu: Let's hope my boys get a trip down here next year, last two times down here have been 2 point thrillers :)
Well with GI off to the Broncs, I think that's the best outcome for us. Gives us scope to retain a semi-competitive roster.

Yup was thinking the same thing as I was posting.

If one of the 4 leave (We are assuming GI is a done deal, and the media seem to think it is), that is a very big positive for Melbourne's on field fortunes next year.

The new CEO and management team can now move on and start to build a competitive line-up, with room to move under the cap. 650k additional funds is a huge gap that they can now fill.

Though I still don't know if it's the right call, with no recognised first grade standard 5/8, can Cronk and Slater carry the backline?

Although Slater has started to take the defence on more this year with ball in hand and create, rather than being a pure finisher. Been saying for weeks I could see long term him making the move into a part-time 5/8. Although MadUnit, a Tigers supporter based down here who watches all the state cup and under 20's seems to think there is a gun 5/8 in the lowers.

You would think Storm would still have to pay at least $150k of GI's salary though. I can't see Brisbane taking him on for his full quota. Anyone else think it's strange that he would from one News Ltd owned club to another. Just wreaks a little to me. I would have rathered see him go to Canberra or Newcastle or Cronulla because in the words of David Gallop 'the talent will be spread around'.
Lack of 5/8 will hurt. But let's face it, Storm aint gonna win the comp for a few years at the very least. It's about assembling a roster that will be competitive while we ride out the storm (pun intended) and get people being members and going to games. Fans in a fickle market like down here are going to want to turn up to games with a realistic chance of seeing their team win.

If a 3rd party has stepped in since the original articles though and offered to cough up the extra $150k, that makes a world of difference.

So long as the payments aren't club brokered, nothing you can do to stop it, and would obviously be helpful in getting GI up there w/o Melbourne having to wear any of his salary.

(This discussion should be in the "Storm plan to get under the cap" thread - Auckmel, can you move posts? Or only whole threads?)

The "cowards" were just going on legal advice and the threat of personal details being leaked to news which going by the amount of leaking that came from the investigation commissioned by news ltd we know would probably have come out.

Do we know why there wasn't an independent investigation? If there were I would then hope all players would cooperate to completely clear their names. Until that happens of course we can't completely clear everyone's name but from what we know at this time, the coach definitely wasn't involved in anything and there is no evidence the players were knowingly exploiting the cap.

HOFFMAN, LIMA, FINCH SET TO DEPART MELBOURNE

Melbourne Storm has tonight confirmed three members of its 2010 NRL squad, Ryan Hoffman, Jeff Lima and Brett Finch, have agreed to terms with English Super League club Wigan.

Hoffman, Lima and Finch will depart Melbourne at the end of the 2010 NRL season, reuniting with ex-Storm assistant coach, Michael Maguire, the current Wigan head coach.

Hoffman has secured a one-year deal at Wigan, with an option for a second, while Finch, 29 in August, has signed a two-year deal and Lima a three-year deal.

Off we go

Next thing, there'll be all kinds of muttering here about Wigan exceeding the salary cap! :p Looks like they'll be keeping Tomkins at full-back, then.

Easter Bunny is real too....

If you generally want to know what the players earn, the information is obtainable - Look at Inglis' numbers being bandied around.

You can beleive in whatever fairytales Mr "We were the rightful premiers" wants to spin you, I prefer to live in the real world mate.

Do we know why there wasn't an independent investigation?

You'd have to ask the NRL that. Though I would suggest the fact the Storm went in and admitted to half the cheating value and were punished accordingly would have been enough for the NRL. The NRL has punished them and demanded they get back under the cap, what more could their inquiry achieve? To punish them further? lol

News Ltd as owners & benefactors of the Storm, were more than entitled to hold their own in house inquiry. It's what good business would do once fraud has been uncovered within the company.

I'm not so sure I'd put a lot of faith in some of the media predictions, though. One example of late has been Folou moving to GSW.

The first figures had him at 4 years $6 million.

Where, around a week later, it moved down to around 4 years $ 4million.

What ever the case, no doubt he's earning a nice amount, though.

Very funny mate.

How about rewriting it like this: "It's what a shonky business would do to prevent its Directors from any accusations of fraud within the company"

What bullshit

Any misuse of company funds, which in this case IS relevant, given the $torm only exist due to the good will and deep pockets of News Ltd, will always be investigated internally.

Within larger companies, almost always by an auditing team.

Can someone please answer me this?
Storm players are not allowed to take pay cuts below their market value to get the club under the cap, because Gallop said so. How come Brisbane are allowed to offer Inglis 400k (which would below his maket value)?

Is it really that far below his market value? Name me ONE centre that is earning more than 400K! Lets not pretend GI is a halfback or hooker, you can easily replace a centre. 400K is 100K more than Hodges is making, is as much as Mark Gasnier was making on that ridiculous deal he had. Plus nglis can get up to 650K anyway through 3rd party deals.

The theory being that as the squad was illegally assembled, allowing them to take pay cuts now, to keep the squad together as much as possible essentially allows them to gain a continuing benefit from their past cheating.

You know I don't neccesarily agree, but that is the reason.

Oh no mate what I meant was, if FOG are prepared to cough up 250k for Inglis in an ambassador role, on top of his Brisbane 650k contract, then that is his market worth.

Would love for one of the Storm fans to confirm if Greg has commited to playing for Melbourne for as low as 400.Cam, Billy & CC have. Can't recall much from Greg?

Then again, maybe he can't string a coherent sentence together. What state he comes from clearly is all to hard for him after all :)

Is anyone else getting tired of the Inglis shenanigans?

If I were the Storm I'd tell him to piss off and start planning for next year.

Whether he stays or goes is massive in terms of the competitive quality of the team overall for next season, Melbourne need this sorted ASAP so they know if they have that money to use next year.
