Re: Stuart Dew, looking sharp!
The reason for the comparison with Ablett is not because of their character but had he not been a father son selection he would have been drafted at around the same draft choice as Dew was picked up.
I for one would much rather have Ablett than Dew because of the potenital factor, Dew will never reach previous heights.
Some interesting points.
Why the comparisons with Ablett? What is the sense in that? You may as well compare 500 other younger players?
Ablett is also a flake ..how is that good for a team? Character mean anything to you? Dont get me wrong, I dont mean to bash Ablett, in fact I feel for the Geelong supporters, not to mention the thousands of young footballers who are insulted at the guys flippancy of opportunity.
Dew was picked late in the draft where the choices for a quality player were extremely limited. So your argument for picking up a young unknown quality player is very unlikely.
What the Hawks got was a guy who could help guide/coach/mould a young group of guys. How many Hawthorn players have a premiership under their belt? How does a young unknown provde this 'same input' as you put it?
The coaching staff would be very aware of the need for balance in selection. Maturity in a team is an essential quality...not to mention a booming kick and bloody good bloke.
