instead of having a history round, they should have a surburban round, where all games are played at a clubs "real" home.

opinions?

That wouldnt be fair for the supporters. You may be a few thousand to some grounds, while u can get many a tens of thousands.

quite apart from the tiny attendance and the affect that would have on revenue and overall yearly crowd attendances, I doubt most of the suburban grounds would be up to scratch; and even if they were, they wouldn't have adequate TV broadcasting facilities, or big enough change rooms, or running hot water, or food sales facilities inline with contracts etc etc.

Really silly idea overall

Yeah enjoy spending the couple of million to upgrade every ground, then think about the gate $$ missed.
Fit about 25 people into Waverley, Glenferrie's condemned, Windy Hill's puny, so on and so on.

IMHO, better idea:
there's a few country/VFL grounds, or bigger EFL club grounds, which hold 5-10k, you could play a NAB cup game on them (rather than the NAB "challenge" trial games). Which would be good, bit of old-school terrace action, give something back to the community, but not affect the big dance.

Definitely not viable for Home and Away football but it would fantastic for some NAB Challenge matches or possibly a 1st Round NAB Cup option.

Sadly some grounds such as Moorabbin have fallen into disrepair but the recent redevelopments make some of the traditional homes a viable option for pre-season football.

OP is taking the piss. AFL giving up that kind of money.

Out of the full at Punt road would mean the ball would need to be retrieved off Hoddle street.

You really need to check out grounds like Arden street,Victoria Park, Punt Road, Glenferrie and Moorabin to see how funny that concept is.

Thanks OP for the laugh. Cant believe people took you seriously.

Obviously the AFL would never go for it. I mean, at Glenferrie alone, about four hundred people would be hit by a train whilst watching!!

But there's something about watching the footy down at Aurora, which is so much more like a big country footy final, drinking cans, sausage sizzles, all that. It'd be the same if North got some matches at Ballarat.

It's a good vibe. But obviously the loss of revenue would be extreme to say the least!

Suburban grounds can't handle modern crowds. Too many ppl go to footy these days and too many miss out plus the facilities are probably run down. It would cost the clubs and the AFL money.

Maybe hold the round 1 and 2 of the preseason games there...
