Who is he? Where is he from?

I think every club in Sunraysia has spoken to Trevor.
Is south did pay $12500 for him then I think they got a bargain. He is a legend is country victoria and my mates who played under him still talk about his professionalism and ability to get the best out of his players.

Very supprised with his boys playing juniors for us that we didn't nab him. Surely we wont have Atkinson coaching us next year?

$75,000 over 3 years was what i heard. Alot for a non playing coach but probably what South need at the moment. Will bring and attract good players.

So between 12,500 and 25,000. Good to see the rumour mill alive and well!

I have some mates who know him and they all say he'll take less for himself so he can splash a bit more around on players.

Chest peolpe get paid alot of money to do what u have just done. Very very good side and i think all ur predictions could be proven correct. Except for the Imps Flag i hope but i am a little bias towards 1 club ha ha.

My only change to ur side would be Thomas (Imps) starting FP best small faward in SFL proven by the amount of goals he has kicked and leading Imps tally in the same area.

Well done...couldnt really argue with anyone in that side....
Agree Imps or Mildura if can get full team playing best chances for flag.
Be great to see T Anderson take out ressies medal...deserves it

great picks so far. would also consider Love from imps for the under 18's medal. Kicked a mountain of goals and been in the best most weeks. What has happened to ant matthews? He was the hot favourite for the mcleod a few weeks back.
Also any thoughts on who will win the rising star this year, there have been lots of good young blokes making a name for themselves this year.

Thanks for that. Unfortunate but them the breaks. It broke in to six pieces over a 6 inch area and needed a plate the length of my arm with 9 screws to hold it together. I've got 28 staples in the cut the doctor had to make. Also broke my wrist which apparently is unavoidable when you break one of those bones in your arm. The damage was caused by the the arm rotating and flexing at the same time making it basically explode.

I hadnt enjoyed my footy for some time but I really did enjoy it there. The comp is pretty good other than eastern hawks very fair. I think you are right and I have said previously that they only need to get rid of those fools and the team not just the league would be better for it. There are some good footballers that get tarred with the same brush at that club that dont deserve it. Hence why I name or put the number of the player I talk about.

I am the first to enjoy a good donny brook, but their pack mentaility and inability to do it one on one shows how pathetic and gutless they are.

Riverina is a good league, just needs some ironing out as all leagues do in some area's. Perhaps the president could sit down and have a look at the video and take action rather than make ridiculous comments over a whole quarter of footy that he watched. Perhaps I should follow Braun and sue for defamation after seeing his comments in the paper. (Wouldn't that be interesting.)

Does not look like ibis100 will be seen on the track again in any league by the sounds of this.

If you go into Riverina site which is on the NSW & ACT footy thread there is more on the incident which has caused some headlines not on the injury but the game between Wagga Tigers & Eastern Hawks.

Apparently ibis was meant to have donged a few players and an offical has come out and said he should of been reported etc.

Ibis has defended his actions in another post but this does little to fix his arm or career in football.

Maybe a chance to be a non playing coach at SFL level or another league??

Good luck with the recovery ibis as no one wants to see any player go out like that and no doubt you still have something to offer the game.:thumbsu:

Cheers big Rig. I have nothing to offer footy on any level mate. Had a gutfull of it really. South or should I say particular people at South took away my passion and although I found it again, I'm really not interested in playing and definately not coaching. And unless my arm is guarateed to be 100% when it heals I won't risk my work or quality of life by playing again. I'm 32 and want to try other things before I get too old. Will know definately in 3 mnths when the arm is about right.

Golf and Poker sound like good options though.:thumbsu:
I have asked Sammy if I can be on his show a bit more to.:D

How did Danny O'Bree go in his come back game see he kicked a few goals, did he spend any time on the ball or did he sit in the forward line. hope he found a bit of form an can get back to playing his good quality of footy

The little forehead got through well...played mostly up forward, just getting touch back...showed his usual class, and the run will do him good with finals next week

What is Merbein talking about in the paper today, I heard it was a done deal with Merv.

I heard Merbein are also talking to a former VFL/AFL full forward. Played at a heap of clubs. I think he was at the Bulldogs the year Alvey was drafted to em ...

Was mentioned in the paper Santoz that they are talking or going to talk to Simon Minton-Connell which would be a huge coup for Merbein and the league. Don't know what he has done in SA league this year but the last few years he has been kicking 100+ for Aberfeldie FC in the Essendon District League.
I think a better road to take as he would i think be a playing coach and if you are going to spend the money you are better to have a coach on the field leading by example.
But on the other side of the coin Neagle will bring a shit load of players with him which Merbein need badly.

It has taken the club 3 years to get out of debt so i ask the question why would they want to go down that path again?

The question answers itself!!
To get off the bottom of the ladder.
To bolster playing stocks because at the moment they are playing a lot of 2nds footballers & Juniors that are not ready.
To avoid being the laughing stock and easy beats of the SFL.
Neagle might have robbed the joint blind a few years ago but he did get them a flag.
If there isn't anybody of his calibre available to coach the club you would think he would have to be considered.
All clubs are measured on a win/loss ratio and all supporters like to be spectating their club come september.
Clubs are proud and i am sure Merbein is no different.
Potenial players to the club would be Matt Chilton/Matt Hooker/Matt Harndoff/Leigh Riordan just to name a few that could come back if Merv was appointed.
And i am sure you can add quite a few more to this list with the contacts he has.
To get another coach from say SA or Melb you will be paying bigger bucks just to get them here without other players.
Merv is already a proven premiership coach in the SFL & CMFL so its a no brainer in my opinion.
Don't know the guy or his style or past history just an interested onlooker who wants to see the league & merbein improve!!:thumbsu:

What can they do to avoid a repeat of recent years, a bit of success and then a tremendous crash followed by a few years on the bottom. Yet again

Manage it a bit better like have contracts/sponsorship in place so that they are not caught with a huge debt at the end of it.

Surely the people/committee at the football club have learnt a fair bit about the mistakes they have made previously and will put in the measures for it not to happen again??

Things like working out your budget before the season starts not at the end and putting a business plan in place so each of the members/committee/players know which direction they are headed and have a 2/3/4 or 5yr window for success not just a quick fix it flag.

Take Souths as an example they suffered badly after 98 but with the right people in the key posts they are out of debt. Yes there footy has gone backwards in the last year or so but they do have good kids coming through and have signed a proven coach to take them places.

Maybe if they sign Merv he will have to go through 2 or 3 years of development and only recruit a handful of players each year.
Remembering the club has the power to direct its coach to what it wants from the playing group and that might mean limited funds for the 1st couple of years to further develop juniors and what they currently have.

Anythings possible with the right people and surroundings in place and maybe Merv might be up for a challenge instead of a star studded side ready to win a flag next year.

At least they seem to be allowing Trevor Ryan the opportunity and time to develop the players by signing him for 3 yrs. That has been a problem at the club for a long time. The most any coach has been there is 2 yrs in the past 15. I was only ever signed for a year at a time so didn't have the opportunity to set an extended development program which Trevor has got. Many clubs expect immediate results when a new coach arrives but I really think you need to give a new coach at least 2-3 yrs to see how his overall plan can work. There is no hope of a premiership from a new coach at a low club unless

a)You buy players that can help or
b) Like Mildura/Irymple have done, build on what the previous coach achieved. Red Cliffs will try to do that this year.

I wish Trev the best, he has great kids to work with, just hope he gets the support he needs.
