Super Rugby Dead?

People in Melbourne already comiited to their AFL team.
Lots on the Storm as well.
It's too much to try to buy a third membership or even try to go to games.

Union is on the carcass here.

Crowds really aren't that great up north either.

NRL has improved it's attendances and AFL stronger than ever despite the rorting in rules.

Union is very stop starty which AFL fans who are used to fast paced action aren't interested in,and the big tackles and knocks to the head.

They have brough probably the one man who can ressurrect the Wallaby team.

If he fails, then nigh nighs Union.

The code as a serious player is pretty much dead in Australia imo. No idea how they resurrect it. I go to a Rebels game or two each season with a friend who is a diehard. Same old handful of expats and old boys watching it really and that’s it. They won’t be there next year. All the talent going to league. Storm gets 20k there - no joke Rebels would be lucky to get 2k. Actually don’t mind watching it live but I guess most don’t.

I reckon the only thing to save it would be to produce a combined Kiwi,Sth Africa,Aussie team to play the Lions.
Call em The Warriors.
Warriors versus the Lions would fill stadiums.
Organising it would be difficult though.

I don't think anyone would really care about a SANZAAR all stars vs Lions contest. Part of the prestige of Lions tours is that they are a different opponent every 4 years.

South Africans want so see Springboks vs Lions. New Zealanders want to see All Blacks vs Lions. Australians want to see... something else. And let's be realistic, if it was played tomorrow the Wallabies would be lucky to be represented in a combined XV.

Unfortunately with South Africa now established in the Pro 14 I think Super Rugby has run its race a provincial competition aligning with The Rugby Championship. What we really need is Australian sides that are competitive.
