By popular demand :D , this year's SL thread.

Ever been involved in a 0-1 scoreline? Me neither, until Thursday night. never happened in SL before either. Wigan wasted three good chances to score, but couldn't trouble the scoreboard in 80 minutes, and Leigh soon knocked over a goal in GT. And Jeez, it was cold! 20,000+ crowd, though, which was pretty impressive.

In other news, Saints hammered a bunch of kids from Salford in an episode which I gather doesn't paint the RFL in the greatest of lights, and hopeless-last-year Hull FC turned over the Catalans on their own pitch.

Wigan back on track in week 2, with a convincing win over Hull FC; solid in defence, and took our chances well in attack. Roll on Vegas! :D

BTW I just watched the Indigenous/Māori game, and thought it was a much better contest than most of the pre-season games I've seen.

Well, that's the question, isn't it? I think most English fans would say no. I'd have said the same, a couple of years ago, but I've changed my mind on this. As I've said before, the RFL and the IRL are useless. The NRL have a very successful competition, and I do now think the Vegas move (and other options for the future) would be a good thing for the sport. We have a brilliant spectator sport, and when I watch a very decent SL encounter on TV, and then switch over and see the kind of coverage that is given to a pretty dull Six Nations contest which apparently is the biggest sporting event of the year, and compare the contrast, I think, yes, SL needs to get with the winners, not the losers. I discount complaints from English fans that "they just want to use us as a feeder league" by saying, they already can. We need to keep SL an attractive enough product to retain a fair amount of the world's best players playing there. We certainly still produce the talent; my home town, not least.

Really pleased that Wigan were professional enough to avoid a potential banana-skin today after Vegas and get the two points. The mark of champions. Didn't see the game (was on a train back home from London) but will look forward to watching it back later.

moto748 any further news on the potential NRL taking over Super League? Interesting times

You'll probably know before I do! :D What I would say is that the recent upheavals at the RFL, which has seen the return of the wide-disliked Nigel Wood, can be seen as a power play behind the scenes. SL club chairmen are all agreed the RFL is useless, I think, but differ on the best way forward. I think some bosses, like Gary Hetherington at Leeds (although he's apperently leaving his Leeds fiefdom now) are looking to position themselves close to the NRL with an eye on the future.

The Ashes are back... This should give a boost to the game in England!

If England can win one game that would be awesome! Little puzzling about the last small venue, it's almost as if they know they'll be down 2-0.
