Surely Johnson will be deregistered by the AFL ???

Define liability. If doing 128k in a 50k zone isn't being a liability I think I need to buy another dictionary.

In this case, a liability to the club. I don't believe that this event tips the balance towards Steve Johnson being a net loss (=liability) for the club. Stupid individual act that didn't hurt anyone but had the potential to. Left up to the courts and the education he'll gain through the TAC work.

You bring up some good points. But I completely disagree with the last bit. If Johnson was player #40 on your list, the "justification" for his sacking would be there.

Personally, taking his license isnt enough for me. People who speed at those levels (even once) show their thoughtlessness and lack the adequate duty of care that is required. IMO, speeding at those levels, endangering lives should be a jail-able offense.

To those comparing Cousins to Johnson. All I will say is, drug addiction is a disease. Once you start, it's unbelievably hard to stop. Driving 128km/h in a 50km zone is a decision made with no logical basis.

Anyway, to the OP, I think deregistering might be taking a bit far. I prefer to let clubs deal with their own problems.

PS: FuMunchu, you should give up. You are arguing for arguments sake. No one in their right mind will agree with you and every post makes it worse.

You know, I think we actually might agree with one another after all. I'm saying about last year that Johnson was in danger of being given the boot because his value to Geelong was lower, largely due to the effect that his alcohol use was having on his behaviour and "return" to the club. Now that his problematic alcohol-related behaviour is gone (for now) and he vastly increased his value to the club, this latest event does not have a cumulative effect.

If Johnson was #40 on the list now, that would imply he had not lived up to his potential value to the club during 2007 and he would be in far more danger of losing his job over this incident.

You would have to be the biggest moron ever!

I was absolutely shocked reading all of you're posts.

I seriously can't believe that anybody can be so stupid!

My brothers best mate died in a car accident because of some moron doing 67km over the speed limit and the FACT is if the moron had of been doing 2km over the limit he would not have died.

I pity you and you're ignorance..........:thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

Everyone know's that you are wrong except for yourself. That should tell you something.....
so you never speed and since that death you have never once sped?

I bet you have and I bet you realise what a hypocrite you are.

And go and ask the police about deaths caused by speeds at or around the speed limit. They will cite many examples.

If you feel that you can drive safely and deliberately at 2 or 3 over, why not drive deliberately at 2 or 3 under?

So all speeding is bad. Not just the speeds you deem bad

And further to that, why is it that many know what the maximum speed above the limit is before being booked, and many will spend so much concentration at trying to achive that maximum allowance?

Why not use that concentration on driving at or under the limit?

And in terms of 50km and driving at 52 or 53 as opposed to driving at 48 or 47, there is not much difference in terms of your arrival time, but it is a 10% difference in terms of momentum if you have to brake or if you hit something. I wonder how much less damage is done with 10% less momentum. Those braking ads should tell you that it is a vast difference with 5km's less speed.

So with that in mind, anyone who thinks 52 or 53 is safe, get your hand off it. You are deliberately breaking the limit and giving yourself less braking advantage. And therefore endangering life as well.

Hypocrites

well if johnson had actually hit someone, or something...he would've been more heavily penalised and crucified by all, so really we're saying "heres a slap on the wrist for getting away with it".

Yeah I'd say getting done for manslaughter would be considered more heavily penalised.

The moral is the better the footy you play the more chances you get, it shouldn't be that way but it is the message coming loud and clear from cat land.

all this stuff from the compulsory driving course is flooding back to me now.

If you have the misfortune of hitting someone and you were doing 52 or 53 in a 50 and you admit you knew you deliberately over, but you considered it safe, then you have established culpabilty.

And the law doesnt distinguish between 78 kms or 3 over if you have killed someone. Culpable is culpable. Its like trying to say you bludgeoned someone to death or deliberately tickled someone to death. there is no difference.

Will the politically correct AFL deregister Johnson over his latest indiscretion??? Surley if Cousins is deregistered for damaging his own health and setting a bad example then Johnson must be a nobrainer!!! Habitual offender who was driving way over the limit which not only set a bad example for young people, ENDANGERED peoples lifes .
Cmon AFL be consistent you set the standard with Cousins and you cant have different rules for different fools

Surely this is an issue for the Police and Johnson.....

Tell that to the Coroner when you hit a kid at 70km over the speed limit in a f*cking residential zone.

Apologists like you make me sick to the stomach!

It seems that people want him to be held accountable, for something he didn't do. He is being dealt with by the law for driving well over the speed limit, that is his crime. He is not being charged with hitting a kid, because he didn't do that. THE END

Ah so it's okay as long as you don't get caught, got it.

Have you absolutely lost it HongKongRoo?

How did you get "It's OK as long as you don't get caught", from the original post.
