Suspicious raffle ticket telemarketers.(03 99040800)

I got a phone call from the phone number 03 99040800, they said they were from the Geelong Football Club and selling raffle tickets. I was naturally suspicious because the call was from a Melbourne number and not a Geelong "52" number. I have now had a couple of workmates, one a Western Bulldogs member and one a Carlton member tell me that they have also had a phonecall from that same number saying it was their football club and selling raffle tickets.
Anybody else had calls from this number saying there from your football club and selling raffle tickets ?

I'm pretty sure the clubs were talking about combining resources for this sort of stuff.
Including memberships.

I'd say that's all it is. Outsourcing.

The last lot went back with a not terribly complimentary note enclosed!

they would charge a set fee, say, $60 an hour per caller, so the club would be making at least double that.

Took a call from this number on behalf of the Hawthorn Football Club for purchasing raffle tickets.

I don't buy raffle tickets so the call was quickly concluded. But it does seem like the number is a legit number.

Its really sloppy not to leave the club's genuine number on the caller ID though, and the club aware that if someone calls that number they are to say 'yes, we do have people phoning people about raffle tickets'.

Thanks for the replies, it's good to know it's not some sought of scam. I don't like the fact that the Geelong Football Club are getting a Melbourne company to sell their raffle tickets. This should be brought to the attention of Councillor Lyons.
