As for the hypothetical part I believe this has not come from left field and Sydney were forewarned not to do what they must of had planned.

I agree, we were no doubt forewarned to not make use of the extra salary cap room afforded to us by ROK\LRT's retirements AND GCS signing Malceski allowing us room to recruit Frawley, or Griffen, or BOTH

Yes, it is, and there's nothing wrong with that IMO. The company (AFL) is well within their right to dictate how its branches (the 18 clubs) operate and trade.

Still don't like/understand why the AFL are putting the onus on the Swans to "stop" the COLA, when the league implements and funds it.

That article says there are ambassadors in VIC and SA too so I don't see how this is a Sydney thing.
