I feel like the ATP are going to be having some words with Dzumhur tonight... That retirement came out of absolutely nowhere, and the timing of it being immediately after he goes down two breaks to an 18-year-old is a bit dodgy to say the least. Even the journos are a bit questioning about it, which I've never seen before.

As for the 'big weapon', he plays both strong & strategic.
Muguruza withdrew from the tournament, so with Gavrilova's win over Stosur she's into the semis. Will be playing either Strýcová or Barty. Might be three consecutive all-Aussie matchups for Gavrilova! That doesn't happen often.

As a senior though, he certainly isn't strong, and with his game may never be.
Who was the last Grand Slam winner that got there with no strength but strategy?
He is young and nothing would make me happier than for him to develop into a GS chance. Unfortunately there are none like him that have won for a long time. Seems to be very likeable, so I hope he leaves me with egg on my face, but as you seemed to agree, he has no weapon.

Yeah, she took a medical timeout three games in to her match this morning, so she's clearly still not recovered. I definitely wouldn't be expecting her to go deep at the AO.

Strength and strategy? Of course every Grand Slam winner has both of them, because they are not weapons, rather skill/fitness components of any athlete.
He certainly is not exceptional at either. Strength? Please. That is you trying to use a sport word to justify your position. What makes you think he has strength at his disposal that will give him an edge over anyone else on the ATP tour? That’s right, he doesn’t, especially at this age. Could he develop it? Hopefully, but I would be shocked if it is ever considered something he has over his opponents.
Strategy? Show me someone that doesn’t apply strategy in every game.
The kid is good, but when you list his weapons as strength and strategy you are as good as saying he has no exceptional qualities.
Do yourself a favour and say something like court coverage or aggressive returns.
Now you tell me a grand slam winner that has won based on below average strength, and “strategy” in the modern game.

Stosur is gone, should do the honorable thing and hang them up i think, out aced 10 to 3 which is 1 of her biggest weapons and way too many unforced errors. Has lost the ability to penetrate with her shots and if shes not serving that well she will struggle to win many matches. I think if results dont go her way this year it could be her last year. Better to go out with a bit left in the tank than ending up looking like a challenger player.

she never aced that much. it was always her kick 2nd serve which was effective at throwing the returner off balance, especially on clay.
but i think this will be her 2nd last singles AO.
