Just so typical of Sydney innit.
All ready to post a preview full of doom and gloom and they bloody turn around and win.
(In hindsight probably a bit of an expensive over-reaction).
I was ready to outline a cunning plan from Chief strategist Baldrick, but Cox survives another week.
(Baldrick was happy anyway, gave him a couple of turnips as he went on his way).
Shame there is now a bye as we're coming off a good win and NM have had their early season false dawn result.
Obviously NM will get smashed by the Crows in Adelaide so when we beat them in RD 4 it just won't have the same level of satisfaction as their forlorn quest for success is once again laid bare.
We have the second best record (60% win rate) of clubs at Docklands. NM less than 50%, but, but they are rebuilding and when they sign Dusty, Josh Kelly, Isaac Heeney & Andrew Gaff, watch them soar. Although how much of their warchest is still available is open to debate after signing Jacob Konstanty.
To be fair NM have have an excellent recent record against Sydney, compared to other clubs they play.
They've actually won two games against us in the last ten years.
That's 2 in 14, surely worthy of a celebration video, which under no circumstances will feature Wayne Carey.
NM haven't beaten us at Docklands since 2007, that's 10 games unbeaten for the record.
The two ruck set up worked well for us v Freo and I'd imagine we'll persist with it.
Now Xerri is a fine ruckman, but come on Brodie/Pistol Pete do you really want to lower your colours to a bloke called Tristan?
(For the record Grundy actually got coaches votes v Xerri in our RD 18 game v NM last season).
I like Nick Larkey as a player and he's had to carry a huge goalscoring burden for North, although they may finally have found other options.
McCartin took him last time and Larkey kicked 3 goals in NM's 79 point loss at the SCG.
79 points sounds bad enough but we had 38 scoring shots to 14.
I'm tipping after our game v North we'll hear the well rehearsed refrain, they're going to be very good, but they are still a young midfield and will have their ups and downs.
Let's not forget we beat what I would consider a superior midfield in Freo's relatively easily (37-25 clearances).
Our pressure was good on the weekend, but our delivery inside 50 still needs work and our conversion (39%) was well off.
The tall fwd/ruck set up worked better than I thought it would and although McLean came good after HT can he please stop playing from behind.
All in all pleased with our performance/win v the Dockers and whilst this is a very early preview I figure I'd get it out of the way so that people might think North's win v Melbourne was the start of something special and they can watch them come back to earth next weekend.
Changes will be at a minimum although Cleary a likely in after his 37 disposals (at 89% disposal efficiency), 8 clearances, 9 I50s game in the ressies v Collingwood.
Hanily/Sheldrick most at risk.
So finally a tip.
A comfortable win for us and
