Why do people say Brad Scott was a good coach? I'm struggling to find a time where he genuinely overperformed with the list.

With all of the dropped games against poor teams at important times. We had a better record against top 8 sides than non top 8 sides in 2014.
With all of the dropped leads, especially in 2013, 2014 and 2018 in the backhalf of the season.
Only turning it on for a given amount of weeks after getting belted by a poor side?

Can you blame dropped leads and games against poor sides a symptom of the list? If the team couldn't match it at any time against the best I could see the argument but they did and when they were on it was almost guaranteed they were better than the opponent, even a flag contending team.

Cool, he made a couple of prelims and first round beltings, congratulations, he achieved mediocrity.
Definitely an above average coach. You wouldnt risk replacing unless:
(1) there's a better coach available (a top 1-2 coach like clarko)
(2) hes taken over the football department and can no longer be fired, so no longer has pressure to perform.

(2) is what happened to use because our executive couldnt keep Brad in line and accountable.

above average coach?
Not as good as: Fagan, Longmuir, Chris Scott, Goodwin, Clarkson, Hinkley, Lyon, Simpson or Beveridge.

And he's right up there for the most unsuccessful coach to coach for so long.

He's better than Goodwin, Hinkley and Beveridge. Longmuir still an unknown.

Surely you jest. He is not as good as any of the above. 106 wins, 105 losses. He is the definition of a average coach.
The mistake of most workplaces (life?) is to look only at results. With the same people and players in place I think Brad is a better choice. Hinkley is marginal and definitely above average too, but both are better than Bevo and Goodwin who, despite their results, are nearly out the door.

He's better than 2 premiership coaches and a guy whos taken an average team to top and second top of the ladder at the end of H&A? Scotts never finished above 6th. You are a terrible troll.
I am certain there are many coaches who didn't win a premiership who are better than those that did.

Scott coached an average list to average positions on the ladder playing average football. I’d probably give him an overall mark of 6/10 for his time at North. Probably stayed 18 months too long all whilst lining up his next job in the ‘industry’. He’ll probably win a final at Essendon in 2024 and get a 5 year extension amid their celebrations.

The biggest fallacy around Scott's coaching is that "he took an average list" or "didn't have the cattle".

The 2014/15 was good enough to run top 4 after h&a and then have a realistic crack at a flag. The team was wracked by Inconsistency which is on him.

Harvey, Wells, Dal Santo, Higgins, Jacobs, Swallow, Goldstein, Ziebell

Waite, Petrie, Brown, Thomas

Absolutely not an average lost.
