Are you saying you think Kiewa would be content with 2 runners up and a 3rd in the past 3 years? I find that very doubtful.

Compared to finishing outside finals each year I would rather the 2nd and 3rd place.

Don’t think we are going to agree on this. Saints would consider finishing third this year as a success. I would consider it a platform for more success. Finishing first isn’t always the answer for long term success

That's why I initially said it depends on the club. Kiewa are well run and ultra consistent, but with the side at their disposal the last 10 years, I reckon they should have won at least 2 or 3 more flags, hence have underachieved a bit. Of course most other clubs would kill to be in their position.
