Back in the crazy merger days, the other clubs really arced up at merged clubs having unlimited choices from the two donor teams

But now a combined Norf/Hawf could not beat mid ranked rubbish like Blews and Pomdogs

I completely dispute that, of course. In fact not improbable either could beat either

Interesting exercise... Need a school yard taking turns exercise to select the combine. You could do Hawf and uh oh ... There is always a shortage of Norf fans

You were the one suggesting any two combined lists wouldn’t be competitive. They would dominate.
Apologies. I thought you were being funny.

Why don't you come up with a combined team you think would beat Carlton. You can't select more than 11 Hawfs and must also select 11 Norf players. Good luck with the latter.

Carlton? I give hawthorn a good chance of beating them anyway,

I’m saying the combination would be a top 4 team. Winning week after week

Backs- Sicily, Logue, McKay, Scrimshaw, CJ, Hardwick

Mids- LDU, Sheezel, Amon, Newcombe, Simpkin Goldy

Forwards- Lewis, Larkey, Zurhar, Breust, Stephenson, Moore

Int- McDonald, Reeves, Worpel, Shiels/Cunnington

Very unlucky: Powell, Ward, and probably 2 or 3 others.

Pretty sure the big holes in the Roos team are filled by Hawks, and the big holes in the Hawks team are filled by Roos.

2 teams where we dont really share strengths and weaknesses so the combined is massively greater than the separate.

I don’t know or care about north players much, but looked at fantasy points and sheils is fairly high up there

I’m saying a combined team from any two would be a top 4 candidate…beating carlton is too easy a benchmark.

A top 4 team would expect to use 30 or so players.

So I’m taking hawthorns best 22 plus sheezel, LDU, Goldstein, zurharr, Larkey, MacDonald, Cunnington, hall, greenwood McKay

But really it’s anything in the salary cap era…that’s the point. 1930s saints and hawks combined aren’t doing much but throw the best after parties
