There is no possible 'due diligence' result which would see Tarryn Thomas on any AFL list in 2025. The fact they even undertook it is surprising given the predictable community response once it inevitably got out.

Another well intended gubby, sorry, grubby, error of judgment?

Geewizz, what a guru.

My favourite thing is how many on the Saints board (and it’s not all of them, of course) are saying how the club feel forced to look at players like Tarryn because of the inequalities in the draft.

Like every club at some stage or another hasn’t benefited or been affected by the inequalities.

Do you think if the Saints had drafted Bont, Petracca and Naughton over Billings, McCartin, Coffield and Hunter Clark they’d be so upset about the draft inequalities.

Its not the rest of the AFL's fault that they have no prize studs producing gun father sons.

Maybe they shoot blanks, much like this one flag club.

I'm sure his fifth behavioural change program will do the job that the other four didn't.

I wonder if found not guilty or no jail time means he might be eligible for 2025 mid season draft.

Should there be more said on this from some other afl officials, I think there is some form of cultural/ indigenous officer

But to be fair, Thomas is banned isn't he?

So this whole 'St Kilda are going to recruit Thomas' narrative seems a bit of a long bow to be honest.

If he can't play or be signed by a club for at least a another year or whatever, how can they recruit him even if they wanted to?

I feel people have been sucked in a bit here.

Possibly. Are there rules against looking ahead to see if a player may be recruited in say, 2025, or 26 or so, after they have rehabilitated? That may well have been the idea.

I don't think there are rules about looking ahead. Looking ahead is what good football departments do, and do well.

Is be shocked if other clubs hadn't also met with or enquired about Thomas' future with him and his management. I'd be shocked if his management wasn't initiating these meetings.

I'd actually be disappointed as a supporter of my club wasn't testing the waters for any player that may be available in 2026. It'd be negligent not to be looking ahead in earnest.
