Speculation Tarryn Thomas

He'll be back.

In the world of sport it's almost impossible to be completely ruled out, sport forgives almost anyone for almost anything. If you're a talented player, people want you.

I can see him needing to do a Stengle though, so go into a state league for a year, dominate the league and show professionalism and rehabilitation, then look around for AFL club suiters if he can do that.

Not 2025 (that'd be a huge surprise) but 2026 I could see him on an AFL list.

I don't think I'd want him at my club, but somebody will pick him up and sell the story of rehab and forgiveness to the public, and we'll talk about it for a week or two and then it goes away, and he'll just be on an AFL list.

would cancel my membership if brisbane signed him.

was a lazy and unprofessional footballer during his time in the system.

do not know why any club would take the risk.
think this is a sentiment that will echo widely.

i don't want a domestic abuser anywhere near my club, can't think of many who will

I am not sure if he deserves a chance or not for 2025, but if 2026 is ok why not 2025.
Someone will take a chance, I hope chance of relapse is small.
Also need to examine those so called mates who might negatively influence him.

He might be better of out of Melbourne, not that I am advocating for GWS to take him as such.

reason why 2026 is a chance because the implication is that he will have an opportunity to prove himself to be a changed, better person. if he doesn't change or work on himself- no biggie, right?

I think a more important side to this no one has mentioned. Each club would have had a word to the on field leadership group and I am sure not many would accept Tarryn Thomas with open arms.

Lots of fans see it this way, but some fans (and clubs) have more of a win-at-all-costs mindset.

Wayne Carey was welcomed back into footy and even into the commentary box, despite a long track record of poor behavior towards women. Times may be changing, but the stats say we have not collectively changed enough yet.

My question is this: If a club signs Tarryn Thomas, knowing the risks, and then he offends yet again, will the AFL have the balls to charge the club with bringing the game into disrepute?

i'm reasonably cynical re: afl doing things for a good reason so i doubt it, but they'll welcome it if it helps them with some free PR

I'm not sure whether TT has expressed any genuine remorse for his actions, although others may know more.

I trust my club, who has been mentioned as a possibility, has read the room on the awful message it sends
Talk to anyone in his home town that know him and they will tell you he will never show any remorse, never has and never will.

The Essendon coach who described his as a “Good kid” is delusional because the kid has always been an arseh*le and plenty of people who know him will tell you the same.

If the AFL allow him to play again then this whole effort of them helping to put the spotlight on this disgusting violence towards woman, will again prove what hypocrites they are.

You can’t treat women that way and be a good anything.

If you thought it previously, you don’t state your opinion again, you instead have the ability to reflect and see you were wrong and change it

The whole situation describes why Scott achieved nothing as a coach. If you can’t admit errors you never going to correct them

Spot on.

Just think how woman feel when they hear an AFL coach say someone who has repeatedly inflicted violence and repeatedly threatened to inflict violence on a woman feel when they hear them say “He is a good kid”

My Missus went ape shit when she heard him say that and said to me “Did that MORON really say that this arseh*le is a good kid, what sort of a ****wit would say this”

Stengle spent 12 months playing SANFL before getting picked, and no issues for 12 months. Repeat offenders, but lesser crimes in my opinion based on what I know

I think you give him another 12 months, and then if stays out of trouble he can play again.

An illicit drug offence is a genuine mistake. Still a stupid one and we’d all prefer if our players weren’t doing drugs but they are young men.

I draw the line at violence against women and so would most people. The AFL should be stepping in if they are even half serious about their stance on the issue over the last few weeks.

I'm with Chris Scott on the topic of comparisons to Stengle.

It's disrespectful to equate partying a bit too hard with the things Tarryn has done.

Another thing to consider is that North's sponsors didn't want to be associated with a club that had him on the list. Along the lines of him or us. Wonder if this would be taken into account by clubs thinking of taking him on.

Yes, I am sure that would be a very serious consideration for many sponsors across the competition.

So he’ll end up at the Swans with an ambassador role for Qatar Airlines then.

This will be the factor the rest of your post is 100% spot on if you can play AFL its a occupation where you really have to do some horrid/vile to be off a list permanently.

The added lure is the cost to acquire such talent = nothing.

No surprise it's Essendon considering Thomas, can't get a much more tarnished reputation as a club.

Sickening that Scott says he's a good kid - he's NOT! He's a serial abuser of women FFS, a serial abuser.

In the current age where all teams have women's teams, it staggering any club could consider Thomas.

Kudos to North for cutting him and kudos to Swans for quickly cutting their domestic violence offender a couple of seasons back, can't remember his name.

Where did you get this mail?

I have seen nothing from our club saying they have any interest in Thomas?

Not sure why you are throwing shade at us by the way? Considering you keep racists on your list?
