You don't believe = you don't know.

What we do know is that Sydney got 38,000 viewers on Saturday afternoon and Tasmania got 32,000. Not much difference except Tas don't have a team and their population is about 20% of Sydneys.

Where's the pay TV figures I asked for ?

Dont want to show them? Ruin your argument do they ?
:D

This West Sydney business will not eventuate. The AFL will end up with a team in Tas instead as they should. Thats the popular view coming from Melbourne anyway.

WS is a disaster waiting happen look at the Swans and Brisbane two of the lowest supported clubs in the AFL and both have a state to themselves and have received around 50 milion dollars of AFL support.

This TV business is also a crock of crap, the AFL would be getting only marginaly less without Sydney and Brisbane teams. We certainly don`t need or want two more unwanted clubs.

As for Tassie, good luck you guys deserve a team and Melbourne people will take a Tasmanian club seriously. Unlike the West Sydney Wizards or whatever crap they come up with.

All introducing these plastic clubs does is tarnish the AFL image in the real Football states. Never forget where your bread is buttered.

Saying all of that if West Sydney or anyone else can prove to the Football community that they genuinily want a team well they should be considered. As it stands at the moment they couldnt give two shits about AFL and thats a fact.

You really are in some need of serious help. Pay TV pay the big bucks to get people watching the live broadcast. It's pretty simple.

I'm not sure whether you're in denial or just plain thick.

I'll spell it out as simply as possible for you.

2 matches with identical average audiences:

Richmond v Hawthorn:
409k viewers that watched, on average, for 56 minutes.

Raiders v Knights:
303k viewers that watched, on average, for 50 minutes.

So the AFL had more viewers that watched for longer.

That is why the AFL absolutely destroys the NRL in raising money from TV rights, and why average audiences are not a valid comparison.

not correct...its because afl has more expousure to every capitol city...also dont underestimate the importance of a 3 hour afl game to a 2 hour rl game.

It's clear you're not understanding as you're making up figures.

Kim Williams only recently stated Foxtel paid a decent amount for the AFL to try and boost subscribers. He takes Rugby League supporters for granted judging by his comments. http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sport/nrl/story/0,27074,24042437-14823,00.html

His arrogancy will cost him.
All Kim Williams is doing is stating the beeding obvious -
... Williams said the market penetration of pay-TV in NSW and Queensland has been as much as 25 to 40 per cent higher than in Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia. "This is because our coverage of league began eight years before our coverage of the AFL, and even today we still have more games of NRL than AFL each week," he said.

"The value of the latest AFL rights reflects the growth potential for new subscribers in the southern states as well as the growth still available in NSW and Queensland, given the support for the Swans and Lions. "The total national audience for AFL is bigger than it is for NRL. That's a fact. ...
Kim Williams knows what David Gallop knows, what all the TV execs and advertisers know, and anybody without blinkers and not in denial also know - that overall across the country, the AFL has far more followers - and hence potential or actual TV viewers than the NRL. Simple as that.

Never mind the Tasmanian TV ratings - The Saturday night AFL ratings for Sydney was more than Adelaide or Perth! -

http://blogs.sunherald.com.au/whoweare/

Sydney -127,000
Adelaide - 125,000
Perth - 121,000

This is one of the main rreasons why West Sydney will get a new club ahead of Tasmania.

Not too bad given the game in Sydney was live on Fox and another 25,000 at the game. Pushing a total audience of 180-200k.

But less than the movie on 7 and only just beat Mythbusters LOL
Trolls just can't help themselves with their paranoia. So it wasn't #1 on Saturday night? - just like the NRL is getting crapped on by Better Home & Gardens for its showpiece games on Friday nights - in its Sydney heartland.

And the AFL beating one of my favourites, Mythbusters in Sydney, is no mean feat - much moreso as the AFL has the average over 3 hours, not just 30 minutes or 2 hours like the movie and it was live on Foxtel. The AFL and ch10 would be happy with that.

But my post wasn't meant for paranoid trolls - but rather to show the value of TV rights in Sydney vis-a-vis Tasmania (which is the thread topic) by pointing out the Saturday night viewers in Sydney outnumbered the numbers in Adelaide or Perth, and would have been , many many more than Tasmania.
