And yet all of the criticism has been about Tayla not having achieved enough to deserve a statue and womens sport being no good.
It doesn't stack up on any level.

Depends who you ask, doesn't it?
I'd have no doubt 10s of 1000s are inspired by it, regardless of who paid for it or why.
How that is a bad thing is beyond me.
hmm. someone simply passing an uneducated opinion as fact.Reverse racism isn't a thing. Literally doesn't exist.
It's a photo of Tayla Harris's vagina with Tayla Harris in the background. It stacks up because of that. No way side on or closed leg shot becomes a statue

it is recognised and in some places it is against the law.
"In European Union law, reverse discrimination occurs where a Member State's national law provides for worse treatment of its own citizens or domestic products than other EU citizens/goods under EU law.[7]"
It’s paid for NAB. I’m sure their money had a big say in its location.Where did I say illegal? It doesn't warrant the location or the hoo-hah, is all.
You've got Melbourne's Lord Mayor criticising ring girls at boxing matches while her city practically has a street dedicated to strip joints. Hypocrisy is rife.
Because white males have traditionally been marginalised and made to feel their only value is sexual.

Again couldn’t care less. Fed Square is an eyesore anyway.
There has been such an over reaction, the season is about to start in a few months so the major sponsor arranges a statue to promote one of the leading players with an image that is well known thanks to the carry on by some of the same people now carrying on about this statue.
Why didnt the major sponsor wait until the start of the AFLW season to unveil the propper statue? That would have been better promotion of the womens game and not appear rushed and irrelevant like it was handled yesterday. There has been such an over reaction, the season is about to start in a few months so the major sponsor arranges a statue to promote one of the leading players with an image that is well known thanks to the carry on by some of the same people now carrying on about this statue.
It is a fair criticism.
The first thing I thought was wtf has the world come to. Nicky Winmar had a bronze statue of him made with him pulling up his gurnsey pointing at his skin after being ratially villafied. It was an iconic moment in Australian sport and the AFL. It took what 20 years for someone to think about having the statue made. THEN it was left to rot in the artists studio collecting dust for 9 months because the AFL coundnt decide where to put it. Eventually a sponsor paid for it to be moved to Perth and erected at Optus stadium.
In comparison it took less than six months for this statue to be made and errected.
And yes there are many many other female athletes that richly deserve an honor such as this.
So why has this issue and event leap frogged so many others? It seems manufactured.
If you want racism, go to China.Could it be that racism and misogyny are now being pushed against in a far greater way than in the past? Both statues have less to do with the sporting achievements of the individuals and far more to do with racism and misogyny both have experienced. Basically a big ggf from both perspectives to the troglodytes of this country.
Well since your asking, yes, Winmar is regarded as 1 of the best indigenous footballers of all time. He is the first ever indigenous player to play 200 games, as well as being in the indigenous team of the century. He represented WA 8 times in state of origin and is in the WA team of the century. He is also a 2 time best and fairest, 2 time All Australian and a member of the St Kilda team of the century and hall of fame.
Why would NAB want a marketing statue of an Adelaide player in Melbourne's Fed Square?I don’t really care. It’s fun to grab the popcorn and read this thread though. God I hate identity politics and anyone who brings it up.
On the statue, it’s pretty clear to me that they made the statue representing the iconic image of AFLW. It’s not about Tayla Harris herself or her achievements. That’s fine.
Still, if you were Erin Phillips you might feel a bit miffed. Given she is the best female representative of the game to date and as someone posted earlier, there is a similar photo of her. Shows that NAB or whoever commissioned it didn’t do it to represent the game of AFLW or a great player, they did it because of a reaction to online trolls. A bit silly really.
this didnt take long to go to bay 13
I'm on #TeamMalcolmBlight side in this issue
AFLW is the most over hyped women's league in the entire world.
That wouldn't be difficult as its the only senior women's football league.
Sure its hyped and promoted just as all 18 AFL will spend the next six months talking up how good they look on the training track.
Why didnt the major sponsor wait until the start of the AFLW season to unveil the propper statue? That would have been better promotion of the womens game and not appear rushed and irrelevant like it was handled yesterday.
