Oppo Camp Taylor Adams (Traded to Swans 2023)

He should be trade bait at seasons end. His kicking is and will always be a problem. Stats has confirmed his efficiency got worse last season.

We can replace him quite easily with similar ilk players already on the list.

Josh Thomas has already effectively done that with better goalkicking ability and we still have Levi Greenwood who is better defensively and Jordan De Goey that can rotate in the midfield as an in-and-under player.

But the biggest reason on why we should move Turnover Adams on is the development of Sier and Wills in VFL. They just need an AFL opportunity. If they can quickly adapt to the AFL game and not turn the ball over like Adams does, they will quickly move past Adams in the pecking order.

Trade Adams while his value remains relatively high. If we hang onto him, he may be another Mark McGough and find himself in VFL before being delisted. McGough had the same kicking issues that Adams has.

Wow, he spends more time as an inside mid and his disposal efficiency dropped... that's a shock... and all of 0.7% on the previous year (still 5% better than Dangerfield, 6% better than Dusty)... that's horrendous.

More concerning is the drop this year by another 0.6% given he's had far less inside mid time.

I think you're clearly in the minority on this one, Adams had a fantastic 2017. Certainly won me over.
And I'm happy to be the minority here.

His kicking when he arrived was abhorrent. Had lots of arguments with DTM about it at the time. There's been a massive improvement to where he is now with occasional blues. Hopefully he can eradicate those as well.
Problem I have with his blues are they are completely avoidable, he just needs to stop switch kicking it into the centre.

His kicking also looked worse when he got here becuase he played almost everywhere but the centre.

Yep, not disputing they're avoidable but he was playing midfield in the VFL quite a bit that 1st year and he was spraying nearly every kick so it wasn't a positional thing, his kicking was just very ordinary. It's come a long way.

the whole point of our handball out of defence game plan is to to end up with a free player at the end of the chain with space to run. to achieve this you either have to:
a) draw an oncoming defender with each handball, so that you nullify them one by one, like checkers
b) handball laterally into the space in front of your teammate so they can break the line of the defender and get past them

taylor adams often breaks these attacking mechanisms by either hand balling slightly behind a teammate or so they are flat footed, thus preventing the overlap; or by not holding the ball long enough to draw the oncoming player, so the defender does not overcommit to the tackle and become nullified as intended. either way, we simply do not get the outcome we trying to achieve

having said this, it would not take that much practice to get this right

but then there is his kicking...

Rather generous. He is an extremely poor kick and decision maker. We have a surplus of players in his position a player we should look to trade this year.

The last quater was absolutely disgraceful. Played on Steven and was always sucked into a contest and didn't worry about Steven, even knowing that Steven would win the ball and get space every freaking time. Deserves to be dropped it was that bad.

Actually think my view was quite balanced and happy to stand by it.

Like the team, second half was a lot better. I'm still holding my faith...was wavering a little at the 9pm mark tonight!

Still love to see the Bull and the Bear share BOG tomorrow and keep the pressure on

His problem is that he is playing at the same club as Treloar.

He's basically the same player, minus the shiny elite, extra bits that set Treloar apart.

At most clubs he's an integral part of the midfield group. At our club he was last year in a downer for Ads. With Treloar back in great form this year, he unbalances us and he's not versatile enough to play different roles. It's a conundrum, because he's a good midfielder.

Thought he struggled early, was having a very dirty night, gave it up a couple of times, missed a couple of crucial tackles and gave away a free but he got better as the game went, (to give it some balance so did most of the side). Wouldn't mind resting him for a week and giving Sier or Wills a crack but winning for is good form and don't want to make changes for changes sake. Thought young Daicos looked like a boy amongst men early but he got a taste for it and racked up some good possessions as the game went on.

This is where we should try and trade him. He has enough value for a player who we have a surplus of in his position and doesnt fit the game plan that Buckley is trying to produce. His decision making and footskills are currently not up to AFL standard, 5-6 years ago you could get away with a player like Adams but now you cant.

Thing that please me was in the second half he looked to give off the handball more which released the runners instead of taking the living responsibility on himself. His handpass that released Crisp was perfect.

If does more of that and less of the around the corner turnover switch kick in to the centre then he'll become a really good player. And if he does that whilst averaging 30 possesions a game for a season then I'll consider that a great season.

Yes it is balanced but not based on his current output as a player and his obvious deficiencies even when he is playing well

Every player experiences form fluctuations and every player makes mistakes. Adams is struggling at the moment but at his best he's an important cog. Hopefully he gets back to his best soon. Think we started to see that in the 2nd 1/2 last night.
