I’m glad to see Grundy will get his opportunity to play in a GF and possibly be a premiership player.

The guy has been screwed around by a couple of clubs now, and I don’t think I have heard him say a bad word about anyone from his previous clubs.

Genuinely would love to see him win a flag. Will still be going for the Lions however. Papley arrogance and Heeny outweigh any support i can give to Grundy

He hasn’t been screwed around by a couple of clubs, he wanted to be paid as a commodity and so got treated like one.

Hideous contract.

People complain about Schultz contact and grundy is still earning nearly a million a year. I don't mind Grundy but he's way overpaid. A million dollars a year for a bloke who can't hit a target and can't take marks

Yep.

There’s only 1 ruckman in the league on more than 800k that justifies that level. Gawn.

The rest (Freo’s Darcy, Grundy, English, Jackson) are all overpaid.

Looks at Darc Cameron, Meek, Sweet etc this year.

But, the club has to agree with the contract and are just as much to blame for agreeing to it.

Vinnie, we need to get this sorted out so we can have a firm basis for discussion in this thread for the coming years. I'm blaming taylor. I used to blame the pies and then I had a period when i blamed the swans, but i'm convinced now that adams is the one to blame. Others may see it differently......discuss...

I'm with you.

This idea that Adams was securing his future seems shaky to me. We clearly had no intention of getting rid of him. We just re-signed Pendles, Steele and Howe and they're all older than Taylor.

Taylor was never in selection doubt, never started as the sub and I think was never even subbed out in his time under Fly (unless injured of course).

I'd be willing to bet he was on fairly reasonable money and given his comments post the trade, this genuinely seemed like Tay having a sook about Mitchell taking a role he thought I guess he "owned"?

Combine that with the rumours of him cracking the shits about not being selected for the Prelim and I'm inclined to think he's just not the bloke people assumed he was.

I'm aware you may be just joking, but that doesn't change my thoughts regardless.

He is greedy disloyal and thoroughly unlikeable. We have found out in recent days that our hate of buckley has been vindicated with his own admission that he was a disgusting person. History will prove us right with Adams. I'm happy to argue this point for several years...

Not sure how the signing of Pendles, Sidey, and Howe has any relevance. Adams was always the most vulnerable of our older midfielders. He’d already lost his spot to Mitchell.

From your comments, I assume that you'll be an adams supporter in discussions over the coming years. I look forward to our future arguments...

No disrespect but he doesn’t play that role at all and never has. Remember his match saving spoil on Mihocek in the 2022 prelim?

He actually plays like a defender that defends first and attacks last. It’s the one thing I admire about him and it’s what made him an elite defensive mid when he eventually got put there a couple of years ago. As a defender he can lockdown on a dangerous forward and support his fellow backmen in the air.

If anyone plays the quarterback role for Sydney it’s Blakey and/or Florent. Lloyd used to play that role back in the day but he has found a home on the wing recently.

I don’t really have an opinion on it I’m just trying to interpret PB’s shit posting. What I’m firm on though is that he entered the system as the highest rated jnr mid in the country and was then used behind the ball as he settled into the system. Exactly the same as Naicos and Sheezel.

Hmmmm, not sure how to take “supporter”.

Did I like Adams as a Collingwood player? Yes.

Do I think he did the best thing for himself in locking in a 3 year deal? Yes.

Do I hold it against him? No.

Did I want him to leave? No.

Did I think he’d last much beyond his existing contract at Collingwood? No.

If he’d stayed, would our injury issues have helped him to secure an extension? Maybe, but he could just as easily have been on the injured list himself.

If that makes me a “supporter” then so be it.

It's straight forward Molly. You're an Adams supporter due to the bolded.

There's two simple black and white sides to this: What a ****ing campaigner for leaving or not.

Molly, this thread will last for years....so you dont have to make a decision now. I was just taking a guess that you're an adams supporter. You just need to develop a couple of arguments and then we're off to the races for years of fun.

Adams would have played in our Premiership if not for injury. He'll seemingly miss out on another Premiership opportunity but this time it's because he's not considered best 23 of those available.

As it ended up he would have played plenty of football in his preferred position for us this season if he had of stayed. He chose not to with a desire for more midfield minutes one of the reasons given for his decision. As it is he ended up finding himself in the same exact position at Sydney.

Given our list decisions on much older players then no doubt Adams would have been given another contract for 2025.

As it stands now the Adams decision has guaranteed himself one more pay day in 2026 but nothing more. He might very well have achieved just that if he remained given Fly's philosophy on experienced players.

Ironically if he requested a trade back to Collingwood he might well find himself with greater senior opportunity in 2025 than if he remains at Sydney.

I thought we offered him a 2 year contract, so he would have played 2025 regardless?

I was a bit against Adams when he left, but I've mellowed a little I want to see him make the Grand Final team, I don't think he will I just hope he can taste some success at some point.

Nice. I love a good riposte! :)
