who wouldn't find 3-4 times current salary enticing. Its the future of the game and I think we need to get used to it. lets just hope it doesnt go the way of american sports and european soccer and players only chase the almight dollar. At least with AFL there is some shred of loyalty left.

A very good post Heafy83

The problem with the comparison with worldwide soccer is they have very few restrictions regarding salary caps and squad size. I know that the Poms have to have a certain number of home made players, but it is hardly restrictive.

We like to talk about loyalty in Aussie Rules, and back before the AFL it was a valid concept, but now it has, unfortunately, gone the way of the dinosaur.

Club champs have to be discarded before the player feels he has to retire, there are examples within all clubs, like Ben Hart at the crows, Stephen Paxman at Port, etc.

Clubs lose players before they are finished with them, and that aspect will grow with free agency.

So how does the AFL have a bloke like Ryan Giggs stay with the one club for over 20 years (at 37 he has signed another one year contract with Manchester United), in answer I do not believe we can.

In today's AFL Michael Tuck would never play 426 games over 20 years with the Hawks. Even when he retired he did feel as though he had some left in the tank.

How do we correct it?

We don't, we have to leave the "romantic" notions of loyalty above all as a concept of a past competition.

We have to accept that soccer can have both out of control player payments AND long term players, we cannot

It's almost as if the AFL have adopted the worst aspects and intermeshed them.

We also have to accept economies of scale, we have a potential audience of 20 odd million. Overseas they cater to 100's of millions

Just some thoughts for consideration

You blokes better have a think about your efforts here. Everyone knows, there's no room for logic on the bay.

I'm almost tempted to report you.:D

Sorry Bernie I will hang my head in shame and order 20 lashes in retrospect of my disgraceful behaviour.

PS Port suck hairy balls......... is that better :D?

Here’s the quote again …

… mmmmm … no mention of Knights. Just a prediction that GWS would target Taytay and he will find it very tempting.

To quote from Post #6 in this thread, posted by D_One:

"After the way Mumbles has treated him Taylor Pedestrian could well be off like Hudson, Bock and Knights"

Glad to be of assistance in highlighting how astute you are....:)

Well Taylor Pedestrian played his junior football for the NSW/ACT Rams and rumour has it that GWS will be heavily marketed as a pseudo-state team (just like West Coast and the Camry Crows) and the slogan "100% NSW" has been bandied about. They will be targeting current players originating from NSW and the players I've heard that they will be pursuing are Kieren Jack, Tom Hawkins, Daniel Cross, Sam Gilbert, Ranga Ediriwickrama and Taylor Pedestrian.

After the way Mumbles has treated him Taylor Pedestrian could well be off like Hudson, Bock and Knights.

Nice get afc9798

Douche pwnt again:eek:

Reported on 5DoubleCrow yesterday that after being dropped Taylor Pedestrian confronted Mumbles and asked three things …

  1. Why was he being dropped when his performances up forward have been better than Spud Tippett's?
  2. Why was he being dropped when Ricky Henderspray hadn't kicked a goal in the previous three weeks?
  3. Why was Phil Davis being played up forward when he is a natural defender and everyone knew that OJ Bock was leaving for the Gold Coast?

To which Mumbles replied "Bock is leaving????"

Taylor Pedestrian??

That’s a different post to the one I quoted. Yes the Knights call was wrong but the post I quoted was astute. :thumbsu:
