Speak Now (2010)

Three albums in now and one thing is clear, Taylor is one incredible songwriter and storyteller. The maturity and growth shown in the three albums over 4 years in fantastic. The country sounds continue, but as with Fearless I feel it’s starting to become more pop/international which I know is to continue into the future.

Mine and Back To December were both really fantastic choices to use as singles to promote the album and get the album off to a really strong start, Sparks Fly wasn’t to bad but missed the mark a little for me. Speak Now which serves as the albums title track has a beautiful backing track that I found myself really enjoying. Dear John which I’m presuming is about American sing John Mayer is one of my favourite songs so far, but then again I’ve always liked those post break up type songs. The banjo backing for Mean is quite addictive, with the sing a long nature of the chorus, particular towards the end make this my favourite song from Speak Now so far.

I can recall hearing The Story Of Us before because as soon as I started I knew exactly what it was, even if I didn’t know all the words. It’s one I really enjoyed and seven songs in this is shaping up to be her strongest album yet. Never Grow Up is another I can remember hearing, but I know that’s from friends using is as the music in the social media montage of their children, it’s a cute pleasant song but one I don’t really feel a connection with. Enchanted was another that I’m sure I’d heard before because that chorus was familiar. It’s also starting to make me think that’ve I’ve heard plenty more of Taylor’s songs then I actually think I have. Anyway, back on Enchanted I really enjoyed it, more than I thought I would. Better Than Revenge had the break up pop-punk style to it and whilst it’s not my favourite it does add to the quality of this album. Innocent is I think the first song that just kind of passed me by on the album and didn’t leave much of an impression, whilst Haunted sounded like something that Evanescence could’ve released.

The remaining tracks on both the standard and deluxe editions of the albums were all decent but none really stood out to me. Of the three albums so far Speak Now is has been my favourite.

Singles I liked: Mine, Back To December, Mean, The Story Of Us
Album Tracks I liked: Speak Now, Dear John, Enchanted, Haunted

For reference Enchanted and Long Live (the last track of the standard edition) are the two songs played during Eras - the latter only added later on because of popular demand - it has sort of become an anthemic song for the Swifties. And if you're into that sort of thing, Enchanted was about the lead singer of Owl City.

This is brilliant

Americans really don't get the world outside of America do they?

They did it last week wondering how 96,000 got to the MCG without seeing fields of car parking. They don't believe people got public transport.

There needs to be more on the august bandwagon, it is a standout on an album full of standouts.

1. the one
2. cardigan
3. the last great american dynasty
4. exile
5. my tears ricochet
6. mirrorball
7. seven
8. august

Greatest first half run on any Taylor Swift album. Fight me.

Really sorry for spamming the thread guys.

We've done our top 5 - but what are your top 10?

Mine would be

Welcome To New York
Last Great American Dynasty
Red
State Of Grace
Invisible String
The One
Style
Mine
Cruel Summer
Karma

WTNY is outright 1. 2 through 5 can interchange, but they're all so close. To be honest, Style through Karma are probably interchangable too.

Bad Blood, 22, All Too Well all bloody close.

After the last week, she is now someone who I consider among my favourite artists, undoubtedly. I've really loved diving back into her catalogue to (re)discover her music. I'm going to be visiting this thread a lot for quite a while I'd imagine.

Too hard. Let's just rank the opening songs.

  1. Fearless
  2. State of Grace
  3. Welcome to New York
  4. the one
  5. Ready for It?
  6. Mine
  7. willow
  8. Lavender Haze
  9. I Forgot That You Existed
  10. Tim McGraw

Barely a gap between them all though. But the first five are so good and set the tone for what's to come really well.
