dont know how to link an article in todays paper so ill just type it,

Richards thanks Swans for care:

SYDNEY defender Ted Richards remains in The Alfred hospital as he recovers from a punctured lung and broken ribs sustained in the loss to carlton on Saturday.
Richards collided with blues full-forward Brendon Fevola in a marking contest late in the final quarter.
Club physio Matt Cameron said Richards has a chest tube inserted in his lung.
"He is awaiting the full inflation of his lung before it can be removed," Cameron said. "He is hopeful of leaving hospital around the middle of this week."
Richards said in a statement: " I am feeling as good as can be and am so grateful for the way the club medical staff have looked after me. They have been great."

Get well soon Teddy...:thumbsu:

Yes he does have the right to protect himself but not by using his knees. Using this logic Teddy would be quite within his rights too back into packs or marking contests with elbows raised knocking teeth out, as he was only exercising his right to protection.

He's leaping for the ball. Forwards have been doing it for a long, long time, and defenders who run back into that space have been getting smashed. It's why it's a brave act by Richards/whoever does it.

I also believe that if Jono Brown had destroyed Richards people would be saying "whew, how tough is Brown", yet when Fev does it it's "that idiot Fev is a thug".

Fev = a beast.
Richards = brave.
The incident = a nasty collision.
AFL = one tough sport.

Its common knowledge Fev uses his knees to protect himself and he should have the right to protect himself.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with what Fevola does jumping for a mark. Certainly, in the Richards incident, Fevola did nothing wrong.

I don't for a second think of Fev as a thug, he was leaping for the ball, simple as that. Also, I too know what it is like to have a foward labelled a 'thug' no matter what they do ;)
