I know this is off topic, but am I the only one that thinks Jude Bolton is one of the most selfish blokes going round? They are making him out to be a hero for playing injured, but what if it cost them a flag? No one mentions it because the Swans won. But what if he fully injured his knee in the first minute? Both Guerra and McGlynn stayed out and manned up. Why didn't Bolton? Did sweet F.A. anyway,,,

I agree; I thought Pendlebury also, was pretty selfish in the 2010 (I) Grand Final.
He admitted that he could barely get out of bed, but decided to play.
I guess the club would have a massive say, though; they probably think that while McGlynn and Beams were replacable, Bolton and Pendles were both taking the risk with.

Absolutely.
It depends upon the player. Some of them can offer more than their replacement even when they're encumbered. Mumford's presence was critical, I thought, for instance.
No brainer that McGlynn or Guerra would miss, but you would take in the likes of Goodes and Bolton unless they had leprosy or some such.

Bolton had played in Lloyd's spot, so Lloyd was always going to play. But Bolton could have stayed in for either of the other 2.

The picks that landed Dempsey and Lonergan.
But there is a difference in what Hird and Mercs bring to a team and what Bolton would have.
It's like if Watson was injured going into a grand final, you would risk it because of what he brings to the table, but the difference between Bolton and who would have replaced him would not have been as great.
But I am sure they knew what they were doing, just a thought I had.
FWIW Sheedy soured on Teddy after the 04 Elimination Final... he took his foot off the accelorator in the first 10 minutes, got cleaned up, taken out for the game, we were one man down and lost by 2 goals...
Sheeds was vindictive like that... I remember when Sam Hunt handballed to a West Coast player in the goalsquare in a close loss.
Few weeks later, in a 99 win point over Carlton, Wallsy asked Sheeds about Hunt after the game, said he looked good... Sheeds just put the boots to him on the spot, didn't acknowledge his good game at all...

Reckon you can get away with about one or two.
I suppose it all depends on how highly you rate your opponent. And how much you want to factor in the fact that Brisbane had to overcome the mighty Tigers, whereas we had to fight it out against the Hawks in (IIRC) uncharacteristically stinking heat.
