Depending what odds you get, i always like taking the big names (nadal, djok, fed) breaking serves in early rounds of a grandslam, if odds are worth it. Normally its only worth taking in the first set from my experience though.

Another strategy i like using which is somewhat similar is backing the big names 6-0, 6-1, 6-2, 6-3 (if thats the break-even point)

in other news haase just closed out the first set, hopefully this continues.

Anyone think Isner can pinch a set of Nadal tonight?

Thanks for responding champ.
Yeah I find that odds tend to shorten after the first set as well.
- I find the odds too short on the mens side to back favs holding serve.-
The ladies favs often have $1.15 to hold serve in early rounds (which isn't bad depending upon who is playing and if you rollover your winnings into the next bet).
- I've found backing the non favs to hold serve is pretty profitable. Especially if they can hold serve 3 or 4 times in a row and again you rollover your winnings.

4U - Tipsarevic -3.5 games @ $1.87 (sportingbet - only account I have funds in after a self imposed hiatus)

I think he can win this in 3 but a chance to go to a 4th. I reckon -3.5 is too good to refuse really, the odds of 2 or more tie breakers is remote.

Thoughts on

J Tipsarevic 1.50 P Riba 2.60

If Tipsy is semi-serious he'll wipe the floor with Riba. Riba will be running around 5m behind the baseline trying to get everything back, but Tipsy will simply hit through him.

But Tipsy can be temperamental, and a loss to Riba would be far less shocking than some of the results already seen.

Thanks mate.

2U Federer/Ferrer/Montanes/Del Potro all 3-0 @ 4.16
2U Stakhovsky win @ 2.20
1U Stakhovsky 3-0 @ 6.5

Also like wawrinka 3-0, may take it later.

On Djok 3-0 into Wawrinka @ $1.54

Like Stakhovsky for value. Also changed strategy and taken outsiders:

Kukushkin @ $3.40
Ramirez-Hidago @ $5.60
Granollers @ $9.00
Seppi @ $3.35
Ilhan @ $4.60
Andreev @ $5.30

Reasons being good recent form, oppositions tenancy to be flaky or decent H2H record.

A couple of these get up and I'm away.

If you've taken those underdogs, then why so confident in Wawrinka? He's been absolutely terrible since the Aussie Open.

Schoorel on the other hand, is one of the few guys in the best form of his life (arguably the only other guy along with Djokovic).

2U Federer/Ferrer/Montanes/Del Potro all 3-0 @ 4.16 - LOSS - Montanes only losing leg, won 3-1 after losing first tie break 7-5
2U Stakhovsky win @ 2.20 - Win
1U Stakhovsky 3-0 @ 6.5 - LOSS 3-1
2.6U tipsarevic -3.5 @ 1.80 - Win
4U Djok, Ferrer 3-0 into Wawrinka @ $2.04 - Win - Djoks match ended in retirement, new odds were $1.75

Record after Day 4:

8-7
+12.88U

So you think Hewitt is a hack and was lucky to win a slam too? ;)

Obviously not a hack but I think most people would admit that he came through at the right time. Tail end of Sampras and Agassi and given his style had the impact on the circuit at the younger age than Safin and Roddick.

WIN (i'll work out my +/- later, need to start my spredsheet again)

Jurgen Melzer to win his quarter @ 5.50

This is a very weak quarter and Melzer is a brilliant clay court player when he has his mind on the job. It is a 2 horse race between him and Murray and while Murray is playing reasonable tennis he will have to be at his best to beat Melzer.

Small tournament bets on

Del Potro (46), Federer (14.50), Gasquet (230), Melzer (200) and Ferrer (40)

Nadal is not at his best and with the amount of stress Djokovic has had to put his body under recently to be up to win every match to keep his streak going i think a few 5 setters on clay will find him out

Going to have a bit of a dip at a decent collect tonight (will no doubt result in a loss)

1U Florian Mayer to win 3 - 0 @ 1.90
Viktor Troicki to win 3 - 0 @ 1.80
Jurgen Melzer to win 3 - 0 @ 1.83
Marcos Baghdatis @ 1.61
