Society & Culture Terrible baby names

I never really noticed until recently how many names are both first and last names, albeit sometimes with different spelling or slight variations. It makes sense but, apart from a few obvious ones, I hadn't really noticed before. Probably more common with boys names than girls names but also applies to girls names.

For example I used to think names like Ryan and Darcy were a bit weird as first names but when you think about a bunch of other more common names - David, Peter, John, William, Jeffrey, Craig, Patrick, Brian, Gregory... the list goes on - they are all also surnames, we're just more used to them as first names.

It's funny when you look at other cultures, too. I've worked with an Icelandic guy and their surname changes with almost every generation e.g. Magnus Hafnarson (Magnus, son of Hafnar) or Birna Rednesdottir (Birna, daughter of Rednes). If they got married their kids would be something like Olafur Magnusson and Gudrun Magnusdottir (they keep their father's name).

They put their bankers in jail after the GFC too so they might be onto something there.

Correct me if wrong but I believe the Norwegians have the -ssen/datter double.

On the same theme, I present Barrington Bjorn Beckenbauer Yearwood.
