Heard at a local playground today - a dad calling out to his son Majestic (who happened to have one of the dirtiest mullets I’ve ever seen, mind you)

My partner is junior primary teacher and gets a good feel for what names are trending. When she shifted schools from the regional town of Whyalla to suburban Adelaide she remarked on the huge difference in the names that were prevalent. That difference continued as she shifted from a school in the lower socio economic area of state to a more affluent area.

The downside of this for us as a couple is that when our first child was born and I wanted to name him after my father, she stubbornly resisted saying it was a 'bad boys name' and I had to settle for using it as a middle name for a subsequent child for the long term harmony of our relationship.

Probably the funniest story about kid's names she came home with was a couple of twins whose parents had emigrated from China. One was named Bob and the other was named Robert. True story.

Yeah taking a common name and just throwing in different letters is a bogan favourite. Or just combining different names.

At a kids footy game recently and there was two kids called Rylan.

Also a Zayden and a Tarris

Any bully in school will love these future victim's

Went to school with 2 sisters named Suzanne and Suzette - separated by just one year.

You wonder what their parents were thinking. But the funny thing is I remember those two names above hundreds of other people who went to my schools whose names are long forgotten so maybe there's a method in the madness.

Not exactly the same but similar, Roger Federer named his twin boys Leo and Lenny. Lenny is usually a diminutive of Leonard. Leo, Leonard, Leonardo, Leon are basically all versions of the same name. I thought that was weird.

Little kid in Adelaide making the news for his altruistic Halloween effort is called Tahdyn (pronounced Tayden)

Used to have fun with a work colleague for her Croatian heritage surname that was all consonants with just one syllable.

Maybe that's the goal here?

Apropos of nothing, would love to see more names with Z's in them btw - my favourite letter that doesn't get enough exposure -we're talking 'Zeds' not that crappy US 'Zee' pronunciation btw. Maybe it's my Pulp Fiction love showing though.
