To be honest - if you didn't;t pick him Essendon would have and we hate them way more than you so it doesn't worry us.
also his brother is the better player and we still have him

According to a Gippsland Power coach I know, Tew was a fair way behind Changky at the same point at the beginning of this season, and a fair way in front of Changky at the same point by the end of this season. So CJ might not be 'the better player' for long at all

It’s not that I don’t approve…. It’s just that I’m not all that excited. (It’s what I said in my original post). I would’ve been pumped with Ollie Murphy or Reid.
But!….however…. All the best to the kid 👍
I’m a cold hearted football analytics nuffy, but jeez this type of stuff always gets me excited.

Maybe it’s just easier to own that in the first 24 hrs since TJ officially joined our great club you could have been more supportive. There may well come a time to be critical of the decisions of the past 48 hrs in the coming years, but for now how can you not be excited for an 18yo that’s just realised his boyhood dream…

Complains about recruit.

Immediately lists a player that said recruit is most likely going to be developed to replace, as a reason to not be excited because we need to find a replacement for him.

Stop flirting with me Pexxy!

I reckon we really, really need a couple of KPP.
I think I'm watching a different sport to many with the huge focus on talls. I think we've got the best value tall set up in the league. An exciting youngster to develop would be nice, but not realistically available at pick 30 whatever it was.

I'm all for people having different opinions but I will never understand why people feel the need to vent their negativity in a welcome thread for a bloody kid.

Anyway, welcome to the best club in the country TJ!

That what the Draft Thread is for I would of Thought

Two names Craig McRae and Nathan Buckley.

Under Buckley we put waaaay to much stock in speculative guys, we placed far too much emphasis on our one hit (Cox) and never adjusted our game plan to suit the matchday switch away from the emphasis on talls. In steps McRae and we craft a game style based on our recruiting of the previous decade which uses speculative picks on talls more sparingly. I prefer the McRae approach myself and if Buckley had instilled this system in this group pre 2018 I think he’d have taken us to the promised land.

We of course could have taken the Lions scattergun approach and wind up with one hit or 3 wasted list spots while we’re contending. In the process ignoring our future midfield stocks. I’ve been a late convert, but I’m definitely a buyer of trying to cash in on fast development through ground level types while we have access to prime Moore and McStay. The only KP doubt I have short term is Mihocek because he has a couple matches a month where he gets banged up so the end could come quick. I’m not sure who the pro scout option is to replace him, but it’s a safer bet than someone bypassed last night because they’re at least a known AFL quantity.

We have a "type" now. Don't want no snails, I wonder if we'd still draft Sidey and Pendles under this regime
we have a type because we have a proper game plan.

I think next year we will have almost a full set of round pegs for round holes. Hope the competition is ready for that.

The can't cover the ground quote from Hine Dawg is interesting in the light of Adams and Ginni leaving the club.

With the later picks I think we used to go talls on attributes and smalls on production and I think we've flipped that around.I like it, but the interesting thing is that we haven't had any draftees come through yet ,other than Nick who wasn't really a decision, since Fly came in and we started targetting pace. Hopefully they start coming through this coming year.

We also haven’t brought many in and opportunities are scant, but you’re right it’s my preference. I would suggest Hill and McReery are two that maybe weren’t specifically targeted on McRae’s watch, but I think have been pushed through and there was a view in 2021 that this was the way forward once we brought GW in (both from a coaching appointment and recruiting POV). I think they’re all in on Ryan and HH which will be the early tests of that philosophy.
