The 2013 Bye rounds

So if I understand correctly, position doesn't matter it's just field 18 players on any line?

Yep, but the players need to be on the field in one of the 22 starting positions.

So if say in Rd 12 you have 7 available defenders you can only use 6 of them.

Also worth remembering most squads only have 29 players to start with as they have a dead R4.

I dont have a dead R4 this year, and i think most teams are the same. Choices of Blicavs, Rowe, Sinclair and Dawe all from the start.

Cox, Blicavs, Daw, Currie and Sinclair all have a Rd 12 bye. If you have more than 2 of these all others are dead. Kreuzer is back, Rowe is dropped, he may as well be dead. Casboult named on ext bench in front of him. Sinclair is also axed and Currie is out for 6.

You only need to field 18
One or even no rucks available is still coverable
Especislly if its round 12 where there are few premiums elsewhere

Something else I realised today.

If your team is predominantly short on round 12 byes (like most are) you basically have two rounds to convert round 13 byes to round 11 byes.

My team is quite Round 13 bye heavy at the moment, but it should be reasonably simple to get rid of 4 Round 13 byes over those two weeks (O'Meara, Whitfield, Macaffer, B.Kennedy for me) while I am sure others will have the likes of Rowe, Kommer, Dwyer as well as some semi-premiums they can upgrade after that point.

Currently after byes for this week I have

12 round 11 byes
8 round 12 byes
10 round 13 byes

But will be getting rid of Pittard, Stevenson and Wines before then.

your best 18 players need to be onfield...

BYE ROUNDS - 'Best 18' Scoring - to better-reflect the actual competition, during the multi-bye Rounds 11, 12 and 13, you'll score from your best 18 players only in any position, from your selected, on-field Starting 22. You'll still need to ensure that your best available players are in your starting 22 line-up.

apparently if your captain is the 19th highest scoring player your vc won't count

EDIT: Also has a round 12 bye. Disregard.

I love the bye rounds. Made up so much ground last year because of them. (Or did I just lose ground originally because I planned for them too much??)

Anyway it requires a bit more thought process and strategy to get through them without many donuts which I quite enjoy.

Provided you have 3 rucks all with different byes you don't need an R4

Good to have the extra ruck on the bench as an emergency. I have been planning for a couple of weeks, and bringing in gorringe next week as a cash cow for my dead ruck will mean I have a cash cow and all bar 1 bye round a reserve ruck.

Any injuries now could mean a donut.

But its far more important to have the other spots filled then a playing R4

Lol anyone who traded in Daw while having other problems such as Pittard or Tom Lee

I am making luxury trades next week (I am only averaging 2000k per week over the comp, the first 2 rounds 1700, horrible start) because barring injury I will not cop a 0 over the bye weeks.

I am going currie to gorringe and whitfield to hovrat next week (I know he has a bye straight up and he will be on the pine but it fits in perfectly with my bye strategy, I need one more first round bye player in my midfield for my strategy to work perfectly).

I think I will ride the bye rounds with my normal squad... I like where my team is at. I'll just have a 3 week money making expedition of buying people in the bubble etc.

Anyone else sweating on Crouch getting a recall this week? Really need him back in because I just know that injuries and team selections will throw up more issues.

It is nice to know that Hrovat, Nicholls, Gorringe, Martin and Mitchell are playing at the perfect time. My team planned out over the bye rounds looks like this:

Evans -> Nicholls
Dwyer -> Bartel

Round 11 Team
B: Goddard, Heppell, Scotland, Terlich, Thurlow (Birchall, Vlastuin, Staker)
C: Ablett, Swan, Pendles, Watson, Montagna, O'Keefe, O'Meara, Blicavs (Wines, Neade)
R: Cox, Nicholls (Rowe, Moller)
F: Johnson, Riewoldt, Bartel, Kennedy, Macaffer (Rockliff, Franklin, Martin)

Blicavs, Thurlow, Macaffer & Nicholls will be my weakest players but I will field 20 players so the worst 2 scores won't count. I'm hoping for a big score this round

Blicavs -> Hrovat
Rowe -> Roughead

Round 12 Team
B: Goddard, Heppell, Scotland, Birchall, Vlastuin, Staker (Terlich, Thurlow)
C: Ablett, Swan, Pendles, Watson, O'Meara, Wines, Neade, Hrovat (Montagna, O'Keefe)
R: Roughead, Nicholls (Cox, Moller)
F: Rockliff, Martin, Franklin, Macaffer (Johnson, Riewoldt, Bartel, Kennedy)

Wines, Staker, Neade, Hrovat, Nicholls & Macaffer are all in my starting team. Again I'll field 20 players so the worst 2 scores will not count. My gun forwardline will be weakened significantly and with a few unique midfield premiums in this round I expect a below average score.

Wines -> Mithell
O'Meara -> Barlow

If I am unable to field a full team of 18 I will most likely end up trading Scotland instead of Wines.

Round 13 Team
B: Birchall, Vlastuin, Terlich, Staker, Thurlow (Goddard, Heppell, Scotland)
C: Barlow, Montagna, O'Keefe, Bartel, Mitchell, Hrovat (Ablett, Swan, Pendles, Watson)
R: Cox, Roughead (Nicholls, Moller)
F: Johnson, Riewoldt, Rockliff, Martin, Kennedy, Franklin (Neade, Macaffer)

This round will be a struggle for all teams and mine will be no exception. With a significantly weakened backline and midfield I'll be relying on my forwardline to boost my score. Terlich, Mitchell, Hrovat, Staker & Thurlow are all on my field and I am fielding 19 players so only 1 score will be omitted. I'd expect an average to below average score for this round but I know this will be a low scoring round in general.

Overall I think I've planned for the byes quite well but a small concern is that I probably have 1 or 2 too many round 12 & 13 premiums. I've intentionally kept Wines & Neade while they have bled $ because of their job security. Port play GWS in round 12 so I'm hoping that coming off a bye they can score above their respective averages in that round.

Obviously this plan will change as injuries etc occur. Nevertheless, it is always good to plan ahead. It is also 'fun' to watch your best laid plans turn to shit.

EDIT: My team coming out of the byes will look like this

B: Goddard, Heppell, Scotland, Birchall, Vlastuin, Terlich (Staker, Thurlow)
C: Ablett, Swan, Barlow, Pendlebury, Watson, Montagna, O'Keefe, Mitchell (Hrovat, Neade [f])
R: Cox, Roughead (Nicholls, Moller)
F: Johnson, Riewoldt, Bartel, Martin, Rockliff, Kennedy (Franklin, Macaffer)

Notice how I've deliberately left Franklin at forward 7 while I choose Mitchell ahead of him as my mid 8 :rolleyes:

I have 20 on the field but hoping at least 2 of Thurlow, Dwyer, Hutchings and Terlich play. Anyway, I have enough wiggle room that once teams are announced I can re-jig.

After Rnd 11 I am going O'meara to Barlow or Cornes.... probably Barlow.

After round 12 Kommer to Mitchell.

Possibly Terlich out Vlastuin to back and another midfield upgrade but need to assess this more closely.

Have 18 fielded, will cop a zero if Thurlow doesn't line up. Fairly strong team this week though so I'm not too bothered either way.

Next week will hopefully be Evans > Hrovat, Jones > Barlow

Then, Mayes > T. Mitchell, O'Meara > Scooter
