Autopsy The 2017 AFL Grand Final - What did you like, learn or hate?

Hooray for the foresight shown in 1965 when Richmond approached the MCC to play home games at the MCG on the "off" weekends when Melbourne wasn't playing!
Salty Sal is very selective in his replies. This is usually a characteristic of a troll. He is being disingenuous using the term "unearned" as he knows the arrangements that have been contracted. The MCG now has several "home" tenants apart from Richmond and Melbourne, therefore should any of these teams make a Grand Final in the next twenty years, he must also class their status as "unearned". In 2017 Adelaide played fourteen matches at the Adelaide Oval (their home ground) and Richmond fourteen at the MCG (their home ground). Adelaide brained Richmond at the Adelaide Oval and Richmond brained Adelaide at the MCG. Any scenario other than what unfolded is purely speculative garbage.

Oh, and to those who question finals at the G, where else u gonna fit 100 thousand people? F me, that's 100,000!!

Can't do it in Sydney, or Brisbane that's fo sure
Does it always have to be 100,000 though. In other codes and other parts of the world where they spread the GF between different grounds it doesn't seem to matter. I would say 80,000 minimum would be the go which in time maybe WA, SA & NSW Will have a ground big enough for this. The new stadium at Perth will be 60,000 wth the option of being able to extend it to 80,000! Not sure what Adelaide Oval can extend theirs to? Obviously its not going to happen overnight but do think it's something the AFL should consider to be fair to all teams, as it's not the VFL but the AFL!

As a viewer in England, I enjoyed all of it: the atmosphere, the occasion, the drama, the underdog winning through. Congratulations to Richmond.

What did I learn? Well, with the GF being won by Bulldogs and Tigers in the past two years, there's hope for everyone, not just the traditional powerhouses. Saints next year? :)
The AFL will try their best to organise this:rolleyes:

But in the last five years has won

- 5/7 in Perth
- 5/6 in Queensland
- 4/8 in Adelaide
- 4/7 in Sydney

Admit it, it's only been a problem since Richmond won the premiership.
No it goes way back before then - the AFL have tried to make it more fair over the years with the exception of GF day when it's always played at the MCG under the present agreement. In the past can remember on 2 occasions I think when the Eagles had to travel to Melbourne to play a final even though they were the higher placed team. Can remember one time it was against Essendon - not sure about the second occasion.

Pretty sure that was due to the AFL being handcuffed by a contract with the MCC. Or maybe they put the cuffs on themselves.

Big deal? We had a bad loss in Adelaide. Most teams did.
Salty Sal wont be happy until the CIA admit shooting JFK, the moon landing is declared fake, the death of Princess Diana is reinvestigated, Elvis returns to Graceland, Nixon is exonerated and toasters are banned for covertly transmitting your thoughts to North Korea. Apparently everything was sweet in 1992, 1994 and 2006. His "facts" are raw statistics considered only in the light of ladder positions at the end of the season with some particular vitriol aimed at Port Adelaide. He could factor in that the bottom four sides won twenty-three games this year, the highest in the eighteen team competition (2016 - 16, 2015 - 16.5, 2014 - 21, 2013 - 16, 2012 - 14), thus the most difficult season yet to win against lower placed teams. How did Adelaide go against North in Tasmania again (because that's where North train and play all the time isn't it?).

I learnt that you can run over 10 metres in the middle of the MCG and take a bounce and get tackled and the umpire will call 'play on'

DISCLAIMER: THE FOLLOWING VIDEO SHOWS SOME MISSED DECISIONS THAT LITERALLY HAPPEN IN EVERY GAME OF FOOTBALL AGAINST EVERY SINGLE TEAM - JUST POINTING OUT ONE THAT REALLY ANNOYED ME

4.07 into the clip

(also not sure why the videomaker counted the steps he took because that was irrelevant.. but anyway... )

This clip missed one key decision - probably the most important one in the match

The decision made by Richmond to go in harder than their opponents

The fact Adelaide didn't reappear after quarter time doesn't excuse that kind of umpiring
To be honest I've tried watching the replay from a truly Adelaide perspective, and have to agree with most of the non-decisions in the guy's video (some are garbage), but when doing it, I also couldn't help but see some obvious free kicks not paid to Richmond as well.

So I'm struggling to empathise with anyone who thinks the umpires were a large part of the reason Adelaide lost. Just not the case.

Adelaide didnt lose because the umps - never said that - but they gave us nothing and by not showing up we saved ourselves some ump inflicted heart break cos they would've made sure of it

Yeah, the team that ran harder, tackled harder and threw themselves at the ball harder got a whole 5 extra free kicks.

Clear bias there....

But hey, keep clutching at any excuse for why the team you had already anointed as premiers lost.

Geez mate the final free kick count means nothing without context - crows got screwed during the brief period it was a contest and after they folded and richmond put the foot down they gave us cheapies that didnt effect anything

When did i anoint the crows as premiers?

Richmond smashed us never said any different but so did the umps
