Don't think I'll bother reading the thread any longer.

The Left Wing / Right Wing insults and dick swinging are just getting out of hand.

Funny because the whole thread is about discrimination and within it people are being attacked and tarred with the same brush based on their political views.

Pretty pathetic that people can't discuss the topic without stooping to insults.

I think you've both missed a beat somewhere between me talking about my experience in how two people from different backgrounds can build common ground when facing unaligned perceptions of offensive behaviour, and how it applies to this situation. In this crossover, it's not offense, it's racism.

He ran with the call of racism, fullstop end of story, despite the kid saying her comment wasn't intended as racist.

Pretty simple. Pretty straightforward. Nothing misrepresented at all.

Now go and apply that to my original post and you'll see it's not at all unreasonable concept.
Point is she intended it as an insult. Whether she understood that it was 'racist' as such is hardly the point is it?

Why arent Walters and Jetta and co getting boo'ed this week?

Because Australians are all racists and cant stand indigenous players standing up for themselves and "stepping out of place".

Every Australian is racist, or at least the ones that go to Subiaco oval are, we know this. This is a fact? No?

So why arent they getting boo'ed?
Because they haven't offended you by questioning the past actions of European settlers, because they haven't reacted to being called an ape, because they have not been made AOTY, because they quietly go about their business and you would not even know there was an issue with racism in this country from their behaviour. And I have no issue with the route they take.
But the fact remains that this country does have serious issues with racism and Adam Goodes has taken a different route and has recognized the problem and has been quite outspoken about it. He has been in our faces with it, he is not going quietly and that takes intelligence and courage.
Long, Winmar-copped plenty of flak at the time they spoke up.
If Walters and others started speaking out more loudly, they too would be turned on. So this comfortable smugness we have is built on a house of cards. And you are kidding yourself if you don't understand all that.
Simple. ;)

My point was, I will occasionally boo Goodes because he is a flog- as seen by his actions against Carlton earlier in the year.

You are trying (and failing) to defend Goodes' actions.

If you agree that Goodes' actions where those of a flog and werent needed and that he could have celebrated to his own fans instead then there is nothing else to discuss.

Goodes was getting booed well before the dance, what flog like behaviour did he display before them? I'm still yet to find someone when can give me a compelling argument why he was targeted. I've heard people say he was divisive but all I can find are Instances where he stood up against racism.

You quite clearly said that there was a right way to celebrate indigenous culture.
Why does he want to celebrate his culture after every goal? Is he the only player who has a heritage? Is his heritage the only heritage to have had a 'difficult history'? Is he the only player to ever be booed? Is he the only player to ever be booed from his heritage?

If he is so passionate about his beliefs, then he should go into politics where he can run his mouth all he wants. He should also put his money where his mouth is donate some of his $millions to Aboriginal communities.

You do realize that if Adam Goodes had his way, we wouldn't be able to have this discussion right now.

After every goal, he's done it once and kicked over 450 goals. Great start from you.

Not improving

Thank God we've mental giants like you and FBI at the vanguard, standing against that.

If the brothers have got together and decided to do a war dance after every goal, the indigenous genie is out of the bottle and the game has crossed the rubicon, the next game Goodes is booed at expect the cameras to zoom in and the shaming will begin.

I've seen it once as a goal celebration and that was indigenous round after he had been bullied for weeks.

As for your last sentence, that is absolute tripe.

People are making out gooses simply does not like white people. It's is total crap. People are asking way many think it is racist. I think most are just a little ignorant but this response is absolutely baffling.

Seriously what is it with this recent dance in football shit anyway? Another Americanisation type thing like they do in Gridiron when they score a touchdown?

Score a goal? Punch the air in triumph, share the love with a hug. Then get back into it.

Want to dance? Perhaps Aussie Rules is not really your thing Twinkle Toes. Put on the spangly spandex and go on Dancing with the Stars, join a Dance Academy and waltz, tango, foxtrot, Charleston, Disco, Lambada, Modern or Salsa your little heart out. :D

So it's okay for him to be a proud aboriginal man., just not around you? Where it confronts you?

I've seen Adam Goodes be booed at about 2 games, not 2 years of bullying; I thought we threw facts out the window 500 pages back.

As for your last sentence, non-sense! The whole reason we are having this discussion is because "gooses" thinks we don't like black people.

Adam Goodes has a complex, he needs help, but that is Adam Goodes's problem!

You're joking, right?

Football is theatre. People yell insults all the time at opposition footballers. You can't blame a kid for joining in. They learn that behaviour from everyone at the ground.

As for the "racism" of her remark, I disagree that a 12yo or 13yo would use the word in a racist way.

In the past, when people describes aboriginals as apes, it was racist because they were inferring the aboriginals were less evolved and less intelligent than white people. They weren't just saying they resembled apes. It was a cultural prejudice about their behaviour. They were thought of as savages - primitive, no clothes, no houses, sitting in the dirt, banging rocks together, grunting, screeching, swinging in the trees like primates.

A young kid is not thinking along these lines about Adam Goodes and his mother's indigenous background. She's not stereotyping Goodes in this way because her own racist family refer to the aboriginal family living across the road as "apes". It's bullshit. That was Goodesy's assumption in his "face of racism" speech and everyone applauded him.

When a hairy 100kg, muscly, simian footballer charges over the boundary line towards the fence, it is not racist for a young kid in the front row to be impressed by their physical appearance and think of them as ape-like. Goodes's race wasn't the issue. She thought he looked like an ape. That's not racist. That's a kid being a kid and blurting what adults might think but don't say.

It makes me laugh the way white people actually stereotype all black people as resembling apes and that's why it's racist to use the word. That's actually a subconscious form of racism from well-meaning, well-educated white folks. There are as many white people who look like apes as there are black people. There are many black people who don't look much like apes at all.

Fact: we're all descended from apes. Some of us look more like apes than others. Jason Dunstall, Darren Jarman, Dane Swan, Travis Cloke and Adam Goodes bear closer physical resemblance to our ape ancestors than Chad Wingard, Michael O'Loughlin, Paddy Ryder and Sam Mitchell.

But nobody can ever speak freely and forthright about this shit because they're all so paranoid about being tarred and feathered by the lunatic, fascist SJW crowd that have hi-jacked the debate. Sadly, the only people who do so are the right-wing conservative f**ks like Alan Jones and Andrew Bolt, which only further divides the discussion.

I don't know with 100% certainty about the 13yo girl's motivations, but it's what I personally choose to believe based on probabilities, her own apology/explanation/denial of racism and me being prepared to give a young kid the benefit of the doubt. It astounds me that 50% of the population choose to do otherwise. Talk about morons. Living proof of Darwinism…

I had no issues with Goodes initially calling out the girl whom he thought was "a young girl, about 14 years old." (His words.) Fair enough for him to be upset about being called an ape. I just didn't like the way he time to cool down, a night to sleep on it and time to consider all the possibilities. I thought it was a very calculated and political speech he gave where he described her as the "face of racism" and then spoke all that bullshit about her "needing everyone's support right now" and requesting that she pick up the phone, apologise to him, that he'd take her call, etc.

Many people took all that at face value and thought "what a great guy", but many other people were not so impressed by it.

In that situation i would be more inclined to still boo Selwood

You forgot that every single post has been typed on a devise made is a sweat shop somewhere in the third world where they are getting paid a bowl of rice a day while we complain about health and education costs between fine tuning our tax avoidance

Is that your personal experience from working and visiting 'Sweat Shops' in third world countries? Or something possibly gleaned from A Current Affair on television? Genuinely curious but, probably off topic so...

They don't pay you with a bowl of rice if that's what you mean, they pay you in rice coupons which you may exchange for a bowl of rice at the canteen at a later date.

Not personal experience no. It is a reality though and I see more racism there than I do in something like this.

goal celebrations are hardly original anyway, innit?

what's to stop goodsey or anyone else just starting a bit of a dance or wobble or whatever when the ball is down the other end? you know, empty forward half, the down-the-ground cameras would capture it all. then the commentators could analyse the grainy slow mo at half time as a 'behind the play celebration'.

imagine how much 'celebration of culture' you could get in as a stay at home forward. that'd also really stick it to the racists. by the end they'll be fuming so hard they'll just burst and we can have them shamed/beaten/pelted/re-educated, or whatever gerard whately wants to happen.
