Enjoy!
I was born in Copenhagen on February 14, many years ago. Yes, that is valentines day.
In my homeland, I loved the world game known as football to many - I still call the name this. I saw my favourite team, FC Kobenhavn win the national league lots of times and I was very proud of them.
Football was the only sport I knew of until one day I spotted a team called the Copenhagen Crocodiles Australian Football Club. At first, I was wondering what is "Australian Football"..I ended up checking it out. I found out that Australian Football was the number one sport in Australia - geographically and demographically. I watched a few games and understood the rules pretty well after watching a few games. I ended up playing for this side as a full forward and we won the premiership in 1999 - my best achievement to date.
After winning this, I got more and more curious about this fantastic sport. In 2005, I took a trip to Melbourne from Copenhagen via the world to watch some top flight footie action - the best league in the world.
The game I went to see was Melbourne v Geelong at the MCG. I was there with 50,000 other fans. At this point, I did not support a side in the AFL - I was just a curious fan. I loved every part of this game, it was awesome to see great players run around and having fun. Melbourne ended up smashing Geelong by heaps. It was the best experience of my life seeing players like Neitz play. He was my instant hero so I started following this team.
Unfortunately this was the first and only game I went to on my trip as I had to go back to Copenhagen to see my sick father who has thankfully recovered from his sickness.
When I was back in Denmark, I watched highlights of every game of AFL action for two seasons straight - sometimes I watched full games of Demons games. It was great. I got my friends or as you guys like to say, mates informed of this sport and they thoroughly enjoyed it and started playing themselves for the Crocs.
I didn't get to come out to Australia, the real land of opportunity for another few years. I came out again, this time to Newcastle to study and go to some footie matches. Although this place is unfortunately ruled by Drugby/Thugby League and Football, it still has some real good footie action in the Black Diamond Cup and I have enjoyed watching it this season.
Unfortunately now the Demons are not doing so well (last place) but I am looking forward to what next season can deliver for us and a good draft pick. I managed to get to a game against the Swans in Melbourne earlier this season which was a great experience.
Although we are suffering at the moment on and off the field, I am looking forward to a bright future at this footie club and hope we can continue to shine for another 150 years.
