My dog can't..

My dog can’t fetch a ball,
like the able retriever
in throw, chase and return,
he is not a firm believer
My dog can’t round-up and herd,
like the competent collie
as he thinks chasing sheep,
is the height of pure folly
My dog can’t bark aloud
like the german shepherd
he’s more of a stealth guardian,
like a lazy leopard

My dog can’t smell a fox,
like the baying hound
he prefers his canine brother,
remain safe below the ground
My dog can’t scare a prowler,
like the powerful rottweiler
but I know he'd try his best,
despite being a wee fella
My dog can’t wear the mascot's cloak,
like the wolfhound Irish
he prefers to stay at home,
content within his own parish

My dog can’t see acutely,
like the graceful, roaming afghan
though when the sausages are cooking,
he keeps a firm eye on the pan
My dog can’t make himself look butch,
like the British bull dog
then he was not bred to bring down bovine,
or ill-tempered hog
My dog can’t preform the tasks as well
like the breeds I’ve named above,
for he’s just a little shih-tzu, but his heart for me is full of Love! :hearts:

The Mower (and the hedgehog)
BY PHILIP LARKIN

The mower stalled, twice; kneeling, I found
A hedgehog jammed up against the blades,
Killed. It had been in the long grass.

I had seen it before, and even fed it, once.
Now I had mauled its unobtrusive world
Unmendably. Burial was no help:

Next morning I got up and it did not.
The first day after a death, the new absence
Is always the same; we should be careful

Of each other, we should be kind
While there is still time.

My two boys, Jack and Smokie, are my new avatar. I've had Jack since a puppy. He's now 11. Absolutely dreading the thought of losing him.

I got Smokie three years ago from the RSPCA. He was extremely timid when I got him, due to abuse but has come out of his shell a lot.

I am a massive animal lover.
As a kid we always had German Sheppards because mum rescued them.

As a renter now though I have one evil cat named Shadow lol. I would love to get a German Sheppard but I'm not sure the landlord would allow it.

Also at my workplace we have two cats. One is called Nugget and the other one is Little one. Me and a couple of the other staff members look after them.

My cat and the work cats (Nugget is the black and white one and the ginger one is Little one

They are adorable!
What are their names- Elton and John? :)

Jack and Smokie. Smokie was Cookie when I got him from the RSPCA but I didn't really like that name so changed it to Smokie.
