How many balls has he faced in those 4 knocks?

Not sure, wouldn’t be a lot. I don’t mind an aggressive opener partnered with one who can see out the new ball, bit like when we had Warner/Rogers opening.

Hopefully he’ll learn a lot from this given he’s only 19 and has come in without fear and just went for it. His first knock at the G was fantastic to watch, hasn’t quite been able to do that again but that’s okay.

Yeah I get that he's fun to watch, but I'm not sure that's what we need at the top of the order.

Guys like Sehwag and Warner also had different gears for different situations, hopefully Konstas can learn that.

Konstas does not worry me. He's clearly cut from the same cloth as Warner, Gayle, Sehwag, Jayasuriya etc. nothing anyone says will change that. In time he may get better at tempering the aggression.

Of all the former cricketers floating around the scene the one to listen to is Ponting. His cricket masterclass segments on Sky are well worth a watch.

However, earlier in the summer on Ch7 he was analysing McSweeney - and to a lesser extent Smith, Khawaja and Labuschagne - what he noted with McSweeney (and the others) is that by being tentative (this would apply to Sharma, Kohli and Jadeja as well) they end up in a mindset of looking to survive and he said they need to look to score. When you're looking to score you're intently watching the ball, the weight is leaning forward on your toes, your footwork is naturally quicker. Merely looking to survive lends to non existent footwork and constantly knicking off. As Kohli has done nearly all series. Khawaja and Labuschagne too.

So give me Konstas over everyone I named above bar Smith.

I guess the difference is with those guys they had different gears for different situations, it wasn't just have a slog. That dismissal today was a bit of a worry imo.

The way Konstas plays you're bound to get some poor dismissals. Prime Warner had more than his share.

It would be a worry if they were trying to save a match and he holed out like Pant did.

Punter has some great insight some times and then says stuff like calling Jake Fraser-McGurk a future all format player.

Exactly. They had different dimensions commensurate with the state of the match. I reckon another 15 minutes of India wicket less, given how wayward they were those opening few overs, and then they would’ve just about been done. Whilst I still think this a comfortable victory for Australia, the series has shown that low IQ/reckless shit out of nowhere can be the catalyst to swing the momentum the other way.

The pitch looked like a minefield this morning, almost every ball from Cummins and Boland appeared to be a wicket taking threat. Such a contrast to now, India have got the lengths all wrong and runs are flowing so easily.

It’s such a shame that Bumrah couldn’t feature. Damn. Would’ve loved to see the series receive and ending it deserved. India would be pretty disappointed with how meekly this is ending however.

Sehwag since moving to opener had 10 innings with a S/R 50 or below. 9 of them he was out below 15.

Gayle was 53 innings below 20 with that S/R parameters. 19 innings of substance at a low S/R. 13 were between 2001-02

Jayasuriya had 45 innings below 50 SR. 32 of which were low scores.

Warner was different. A lot of his lower SR innings were in England or Sub-continent where intent was less relevant than being able to even hit the ball. none the less, 13 of 57 slow innings had a decent score.

I think the stronger correlation of the 4 is that whenever they were batting slower it was usually a sign of the bowler being on top and them generally (122/165) getting out early as a result more so than being able to taper their style to the situation.

I get the criticism. It always looks bad.
I think he'll learn and grow as he goes. Still a teenager.

The spin furnace at Galle (x2) in a couple months will be a good learning experience for Konstas.

The Indian captain as they lose the Border-Gavaskar being Kohli.
